Joel Robles

Another good game from Robles.

Some people simply believe their eyes. Every week, he plays well and yet there are some who want to spunk money
on some foreign goalie who might or might not be much good.

If we can get De Gea or Lloris then great otherwise we have a keeper who is better than most and is getting better.

Personally i would like Begovic or Butland, don't take an interest in foreign footy so never heard of half the goalies were linked with. Saturday was the first time I've seen him properly tested, other games we've never really been under the cosh shot wise, a couple of chances here and there and not much he could do about goals. I liked what I saw mostly on Saturday, so I'm willing to give him a chance over someone i've never heard of. We still need another goalie no matter what though.

I'm not convinced personally. He's obviously a good shot stopper but so was Howard before age caught up with him, and I was never totally convinced by him either.

There were a couple of crosses that I thought he should have claimed on saturday, and his distribution was absolutely atrocious. I don't think he's a bad keeper by any means, but I think having him as our number 1 suggests we are content to linger in lower mid-table. I don't advocate just signing anybody for the sake of it, but I do think there is significant scope for improvement in that area.

He's a step up from Howard, but I've always been of the opinion that he was a stop gap until the end of the season until a new first choice GK could be brought it

That opinion hasn't changed since he's come in to the first team to be honest

I'd certainly keep him on the playing staff, but I think we need to get a new Keeper in this Summer

I'd spend most of the summer transfer kitty on as good a Keeper as we can get

No it was'nt. He scewed up one long delivery nad bear in mind that tahnks to Stones and co. he kicks more often than any other Premier League keeper.

As for those who despite the evidence want him out...

You can't say I've not been consistant in regards to this matter to be fair

Not sure about "never" but I'd agree he shouldn't be #1 for us, but I would have him as #1 instead of Howard

Again, I think neither is the answer but Joel is the better option of the two IMO

I don't think he'll be our 1st choice keeper next season, but I'd happily give it to him between now and the end of this season

I've said it before, asking "Joel or Howard" is similar to asking "What would you rather drink, dirty dish water or battery acid?"

Joel is better than Howard and, in a normal team with a competent first choice keeper, he'd be decent back up. He wouldn't be my first choice in other scenario's than this one, but he's had some good outings this season and I believe he should be rewarded with the starters jersey

I don't think he was really to blame for that last night
Did well enough at times

Let's face it, we need a new 1st choice keeper, but until we find him I'm happy for Robles to play over Howard

He should be in for the rest of the season now IMO, and then we can access it at the end of the season

You must seriously have been watching a different game.

Speaking of saying things 'despite the evidence', why don't you take a look at the following link.

He had a pass completion rate of 25%.TWENTY FIVE PERCENT. Three quarters of his passes failed to find one of our players. If you don't believe that's atrocious, you have incredibly low expectations of a professional footballer.

To be fair his distribution is normally good. Certainly when it comes to starting counter attacks. Some of those would have been clearances from Joel under pressure too.

But clearly he had a poor game distribution wise. Just don't think distribution is one of his weaknesses normally. I'd actually call it a strength most games.

As for the goal Stones was foolish to pass back but once he'd decided to why didn't get play it on the ground? Joel isn't Pienaar, if you're going to give him the ball under pressure then give him the simplest pass possible.
