Always did his best with what he had as a manager - Nil Satis Nisi Optimum was something he epitomised. I wish I'd have seen him as a player.

When you think of Everton - you think of Joe Royle. Class on and off the pitch. A real gentlemen which is so hard to find in the game today.

Met him a few years ago at an Everton Legends night.

A true gentleman who had time for everyone. I’d have a statue for him at the new ground.

He was a potentially great number nine before his back injury, he was bullying first division defenders and scoring for fun as a teenager. It's easy to forget that he only turned 20 in the 69-70 title winning season, during which he scored 20 pluss goals.

They weren't right though.

We had a great counter attacking game with bags of pace in the team and a midfield of tenacity and quality that'd put this current Everton team in the bin quick smart.

Only Ndiaye, Branthwaite and possibly KDH would get into that team.
