Current Affairs Joe Biden POTUS #46

Handed out 100 million vaccines and passed a huge COVID relief package all the while playing NO golf in the first two months. He can trip up stairs every time if he wants.
Amazing how much a president can accomplish if they actually bother to work. Just think of the many lives that could have been saved had Trump done his job.

I'm no Trump fan - far from it.
But credit where it is due. He took a gamble ordering
and paying for the huge amount of vaccines that he did (unlike the EU) and he came
up trumps. Without that there would be no vaccines to distribute.
I wouldn't credit Trump but his medical advisory, probably Dr. Fauci had more to do with such decisions than Trump.

Republicans know nothing better than being obstructionist, if they don't like Biden infrastructure plan then why don't they offer a counter plan instead? Because they have none and all they care is to stop Biden's agenda at whatever cost.

But if it would have all gone wrong who would have gotten the blame - Dr. Fauchi?
As I say, just give credit where it is due regardless of the personalities involved.
Agreed Paul. If you get to own the failures you should get to own the successes. But most democrats will never give Trump any credit and most republicans will never give Biden any credit even when he does things well. We’re very polarized.

What gamble did he take? Funding for Operation Warp Speed and vaccine purchases were overwhelmingly approved by Congress. Yes, overwhelmingly. The vote in the Senate was 96-0.

It all happened under his Administration and we are all thankful for the vaccine (well, except anti-vaxxers). But let's not muddy the water by saying the former guy did something controversial or politically challenging in this case.

Politically challenging? No not really. If anyone stood against funding vaccine development they would’ve been crucified. But it still was the correct move, and we’re one of few that did enough with preorders to be ahead of the game compared to some other countries with similar opportunity. If he hadn’t approved the plans he did, then he’d definitely get the blame. So I think it’s fine to acknowledge something he did was actually the correct move.

Which is what I did. Vaccine funding happened under the previous Administration.

What I objected to was the notion it was a gamble - in any form.

Fair enough. I mean everything with any risk involved can be considered a gamble. But now we’re getting into semantics.

Sure its fine to acknowledge that he did the right thing. I get it. But give him credit.

That's what bugs me. Credit for what? Doing his job when asked and not putting up one of his usual childish rants on twitter.

I would imagine anyone else in the job would have done the same thing in a heartbeat. Seems like a no brainer.

Given how long it took him to acknowledge the virus and take it seriously in the first place. Then actually listen to the Doctors and experts. That was the least he could do and not botch getting his hands on a vaccine and promptly.

What about his admin refusing to help states out. Not get them the equipment they needed. Then making it an all out bidding war between states. Should we credit him with that. That worked out so well.

Telling people he's too cool for masks and allowing states not to deal with the virus as it was their decision. Let's credit him with that also right, genius it was, no deaths happened right? Oh wait!

See where I'm going with this. There are things I would give him credit for in his four years. There have been minor miracles with him actually doing his job and putting his power to use. Very small amount of time. But this no.

I feel like the bar was set so low with him that if he stayed of twitter for a whole morning he was given credit and seen as presidential. So anything that should be bread and butter for a president we have to go out of the way to fawn over and credit him for outstanding work. Otherwise we are bitter.

When has Trump own his own failures?

I give credit when deserve. But Trump was a failure when it came to Covid, among many other things. He ordered all of those vaccines because it was recommended to him and he finally followed his medical advisors advise. Like some other people have mentioned here, he was just doing his job that's what he was elected for and he was a failure at it so he deserves no credit for the vaccine. I wasn't like he paid for them.
