Joe is at it again
“COVID has taken this year, just since the outbreak, has taken more than 100 years... Look. Here's... The lives... It’s just... I mean, think about it. More lives this year than any other year, for the past hundred years."

His cognitive state is imploding

If Amy, Pete or Kamala were the better candidate then the clear question is... why didn't they beat Joe in the primaries?

I submit that if Joe is a question for some "moderate" voters then they probably aren't truly politically moderate. Further, if Tweetie isn't enough of a nightmare to vote for a cheese sandwich if that will make him go away, again I question their status as a political moderate.

As to the Republican and Independent voters, Dems need to pick off 5% of that crowd and simultaneously turn out their own base. They do that and it will be an Electoral rout. Won't be easy but it's doable.
Because the political establishment basically decides who the candidate will be rather than the people and works out a way to make it happen?

My point is that responding to someone who has been a lifelong republican or an exhausted independent who asks, why should I vote for Joe, with “He’s not a Cheeto” isn’t what they’re looking foe with that question. The hate speech in politics from both sides is tiresome.

FYI I think our 2 party system sucks and consider myself a moderate/independent and will be voting for Biden despite the fact that I think he’s lost the plot. But I’m not everyone. Messaging matters.

well, not to put too blunt a point on it but a lot of moderate republicans wouldn't vote for pete because he's gay, Harris because she's a woman of color, Beto because of 2A fears. Amy might have been a pick but her legal background may have run her in to trouble with the left wing of the party.
The safest bet was to run on the coat tails of Obama's legacy with a moderate non offensive old white dude.
I don't think he's likely to make the whole term but he's probably what the democrats need to take the white house.
He has 9 more weeks to keep his crap together.
No one is perfect but they’re all better options. And are you really worried you might’ve had defectors if Amy was the choice? The whole democratic party has been screaming anyone but Trump for 4 years.

And there’s the problem Finners. Get a functioning adult to run, and it’s a landslide. However, that was too much to ask.

Yea, I agree, I'd have had any of them over Biden i think. Though I really wanted a progressive.
As for Amy, I don't think there'd be defectors but it might have been tougher to turn out progressive voters particularly after what happened to George Floyd.

Yup, I totally agree. I have a feeling they might try to get him out of the way...and place Harris in. Problem with that is that she's awful too x
They fkd their primaries so bad.

If saying anyone but Trump is supposed to be enough for concerned Republicans to turn, but a more moderate Democrat can’t turn out votes from the progressives of their own party, then that’s again a huge issue. It shouldn’t have to be extremes as the only choices.

Even a 77 y/o Biden in cognitive decline is a million miles better than Trump.
At this point, if you're voting for trump, you've been completely brainwashed or you are part of the mega wealthy elite.
It’s not those who are voting for Trump I’m worried about. Those who support him now were never changing. It’s those so disenfranchised with the whole thing they don’t show up that is the concern. Should they sit out? No. But I guarantee some will.

Voting against Trump should be reason enough for Republicans to turn. Their party has been hijacked by a narcissistic egomaniac who's paved the way for Americas nasty underbelly to put it's self front and center. Democrats will turn out their progressives because the threat to American democracy is too great.

for sure, American politics is a mess.
But the blame for that lies with the GOP who for a generation have ripped away at the system.
Sure, the Democrats have issues but uniting around one candidate who has blue collar labor support, strong African American support, a compelling personal story and just about the polar opposite of Trump doesn't seem like a terrible idea.
Turn out will be big despite covid and that's not good for republicans, would Beto, Pete, Amy etc have done better, maybe, but I'm not sure it's the night and day difference you seem to think it would be.

There's no coronation. If there was, Biden would have made a better showing in the early primary states. He didn't. He performed awfully. Yet no one else grabbed the nomination and, frankly, the African-American community then rallied hard behind Biden.

If a lifelong Republican or exhausted independent asks the question "why should I vote for Joe", then I respond with a statement and a question. "I don't know what your hot button issues are. Do you mind sharing with me?" If they share what they are, then I respond appropriately. But if all they want is a general response to "why should I vote for Joe?" then my answer is, "because, first and foremost, Joe Biden is a decent man. He has a nearly 5-decade long career of working with both Dems and the GOP on a wide range of issues. I'm guessing you voted for John McCain? Well, John McCain counted Joe as one of his best friends and John McCain intensely disliked the current POTUS. I'll also guess you voted for Mitt Romney? Mitt Romney voted to impeach the POTUS and is not going to vote for him in 2020. Loads of the current POTUS' former senior staff will not support him. 70-something former National Security officials, all Republican, signed a letter indicating why they will not vote for the POTUS in 2020 and will instead vote for Biden. This kind of rebuke from people who worked for the POTUS and served other Presidents of his same party is unprecedented. It speaks to the contrast. A decent, principled servant of the people versus someone who is noted as the opposite by his own people, his own party."

Glad you will be voting Biden!! If you want more talking points, feel free to DM. I'm doing what I can for a couple of hours every day via phone, text, chat, knocking on doors to make a difference. Hope you will join the effort. We need you.

to follow @BlueTX
If you know anyone who votes in MA and thinks the system sucks. Get them to vote yes on 2.
I've been standing around with a clipboard for this for a while now!

We’ll see how it goes. And part of it’s my own frustration with the option I have to choose now. But I do think it’s closer than it needs to be. Basically seeing the political equivalent of Moyes era tactics when defending a lead.
