2024/25 Jesper Lindstrom

Like Dyche didn't know O'Brien could play no.2.
To win a uefa cup playing at no.8/10 then bought for 20m shows he can play there. If there is no room for him as an attacking midfielder then we will surely let him go and class it as a wasted loan

Didn't Dyche actually play O Brien wide right against Villa away if my memory is right in a hybrid 3.

As i said hes competing for a place there mate - unsuccessfully.

Its not something we know the club doesnt.

Waste of loan then if his uefa cup win and 20m tag isn't convincing anyone at the Club.......well, convincing Moyes because Dyche doesn't count as anyone who knows about attacking players

Not sure its all or nothing in terms of a waste, a waste would have been signing him for £20 mill - he's contributing, is his contribution - worth 20 mill - even for Europa League winner, i think for most Blues its a no.

Shake hands and wish him well.

I was hopeful he might come good but it's not looking likely.

The role he is playing now is an interesting one. It's a bit of a winger/wingback hybrid as O'brien moves from fullback to form a back 3.

I think whoever we get needs to have pace, stamina and end product. Probably more of a proper right winger than an inside forward (like Ndiaye on the opposite side). I wonder if they think fellows can do the job.

Seems like a nice lad. But if was someone worth retaining, this thread would be entirely different. Instead it’s loaded with his day will come, let’s part ways, he’s playing out of position, he’s invisible, not good enough, etc…. If he was good enough and filling a role, discussion would be different. I gave him the benefit of the doubt. But now you have to be honest with yourself why literally years have gone by where he doesn’t score, assist, play much, and get traded.

Again, he comes off as a good person, but I see no possible reason why we would keep him. Hes not a winger, and should be a 10 somewhere, and its clear we dont want to play him there. There is just absolutely no fit here for him, or for us.

He did manage a cross field pass to Harrison.

If that classes as an assist these days, then the standards are pretty low bar aren’t they?

So apart from that cross field pass, he was as usual anonymous.
It was a great ball slip or not. I am not going to diminish the assist here. The switch made it possible for Harrison to get the shot off as the defense couldn't close it down enough. It wasn't the typical tap to the nearest Ndiaye and watch him dance his way and blammo into the net himself. It's fair to knock his play. Going after a good ball and calling it a low standard assist is pretty harsh. It was a good goal and a good ball.
