Moyes said he’s ok to play, but in general, when bad news breaks behind the scenes it’s almost always true. Do you remember when rumours of Baines and Barkley being injured on the eve of seasons both turned out to be true. Lots of other instances too.

It’s a worry. You want your best centre back playing 32+ games a season, year in year out. No reason he can’t do that but, based on this season and last, it’s definitely reasonable to be concerned.

Put it this way, you’d have to factor it in when squad building. He is currently half a player in terms of availability.
