The under appreciated part of his game is that he is really good at passing the ball forward as well as being a good defender
Mountfield and Watson had Ratcliffe, You need a stopper and a quick cultured footballer. There have been plenty of them partnerships with many successful teams before that to the present dayI dont think you can underestimate the importance of recovery pace in a cb partnership
Might still be time to change that imo.So good to have him back.
Also, it's completely laughable that it will be Dan Burn heading to the World Cup this summer, not Branthwaite.
Guehi is as goodHe's immense. His positioning in the box is unreal. Always in exactly the right place to clear every cross. I'm not sure there's another centre back in the league that I would swap for him. Undoubtedly the best English centre back at the moment
Not for me, doesn't dominate in the box. Good player but Branthwaite has more attributesGuehi is as good
Not for me. Branthewaite's passing and positioning are better. Branthewaite is like John Terry with pace. His positional play in the box is absolutely incredible.Guehi is as good
I feel similarly about all our 'possibles' honestlyLove him, he's a colossus! I'm hoping he doesn't go to the World Cup as I want him to have a full uninterrupted pre-season with us.
For whatever reason, Branthwaite just doesn't seem to be under serious consideration for England (it appeared he wasn't always first choice for the U21s, either).Might still be time to change that imo.
Burn will go down as a centre half in a team that finishes bottom half, Jarrad will hopefully be the star of a European-challenging side.
I personally don't believe Grealish should have made the squad even if fit, nor that Dewsbury-Hall is consistent enough for England, but Branthwaite surely will be in with an outside shot.
The more painful one imo will be Henderson going and Garner not. Although to be fair Brentford are ahead of us, so maybe that's not entirely fair.
For me though, Henderson's England career should have permanently ended as soon as he went to Saudi, no bringing him back into the fold as a 'leader' at 34 years old and a bench player.
