2024/25 Jarrad Branthwaite

Spurs who have just won a European trophy, play in a 63k stadium, offer London living (which isn’t for everyone I know), will offer big wages, and champs league football. If they come in with say 70m, he’s gone.

In football, everyone is a selling club bar Real Madrid sadly.

That said, I wouldn’t be selling our prized asset to Spurs. Moving into our shiny new stadium, I see them as a rival. In terms of history, they aren’t all that, but have had the revenues and financial backing, despite their protests. Really angered me in 2009 when we had a bid accepted for Kyle Naughton, and they blew us out the water and took him and Kyle Walker. Kenwright couldn’t compete with Joe Lewis’s money, but the media made them out to be somehow “plucky”.

Bramley Moore won’t change all of that, but it hopefully reduces some of their financial advantage, if we also get it right on the pitch.

There are some clubs who are sadly a long way in front, and we aren’t meaningfully closing the gap soon (let’s say Arsenal) . So whilst it would upsetting to sell to them, we wouldn’t be strengthening a rival. With the likes of Spurs, Newcastle, Villa and United, I see it as strengthening a rival. If Branthwaite is as good defensively as we think he is, we could be sorting their defensive woes out for the next 7/8 years.

Big no to selling to spurs.

We aren’t a rival to spurs mate. They have had a poor league position this year but still won a European trophy. We are miles behind that. We haven’t won a trophy in 30 years, we have almost been relegated about 3 times and apart from the stadium, our name is probably mud out there at the moment. Imagine your agent saying ‘Everton or Spurs then, what you thinking?’. All of our hearts say Everton but the reality is it’s probably Spurs all day.

One thing we cannot afford this summer is to drag this story throughout pre season and into the start of the season right up until deadline day. If he goes, it needs to be early so that we can plan accordingly.

We’ll see what happens but if he’s sold this window it won’t be for anywhere near £100m.

He’s a great player but we probably overrate him compared to other centre halves in the game.

£60-70m is a fair price and I don’t see the club rejecting that if a bid comes in.

Leicester got 70 for Fofana and 80 for Maguire and how long ago was that? Is Branthwaite inferior to those two? Palace have rejected those types of bids for Guehi.

If a club wants him they’ll have to pay but as Moyes said they better bring a big bag of cash.

I don’t know why people think Everton let players go on the cheap.

50 mill for Stones, a record at the time for a CB I think
90 mill for Lukaku, also a record before the Neymar deal distorted the entire market that summer
Even Rooney was a record for a teenager at the time
Richarlison went for 60 mill and that was with us over a barrel for PSR

We don’t sell cheap, especially when we’re not forced to.

I can see him going to Spurs if they stump up the money (big if seeing how tight Levy is).

Romero wants to go to Athletico and is pretty open about leaving.
Get yourself pen 🖊️ keeping writing down the odds , until it runs out. And there the odds you can have with me he goes to spurs

Add Anthony Gordon to that list. Not sure what the fee we got for him.

Take your point but disagree mate.

What’s the point of our shiny new iconic stadium? To bumble along in mid-table, knowing “our place”? I hope our new owners don’t see it that way. As they apparently wanted us before Roma, hopefully they don’t.

Are Villa not our rival? I’m guessing maybe not, as they were in the Champions League quarter final a few months ago and have been consistently finishing above us over the past 4 seasons. They’ve also bought some of our best players off us, so I guess they aren’t a rival.

But it wasn’t that long ago, that if you would have suggested Villa where our rival, we would have lost our heads. We loaned them Yannick Bolasie, took Gana, and were playing Europa League whilst they were bobbing along in the Championship for 3 seasons. Definitely not a “rival” club of ours. We’ve just been through our toughest patch and didn’t spend three years out of the top flight.

You honestly don’t think Villa see Spurs as rivals? In every sense (without playing in a crap part of London) they most definitely are.

So if Villa quite rightly see Spurs as rivals, I’m baffled why we don’t.

spurs i just don't see. not thaty they're not in a better position than us, just once you make your big prem move it's unlikely you get another so soon unless it's a move down

if i was him i'd possibly hold out for something bigger

alos if ange does stay they're a disaster at the back, might not be wise ahead of a world cup

Just finished 16th or whatever it was. First trophy in 17yrs. Not won a title for 64 yrs. he ain’t wasting the next 3/4yrs of his career at spurs

I get Spurs v us right now but surely we’re targeting challenging for Europe and that certainly means they’ll be our rivals. Does anyone realistically see them as regular CL participants / winning leagues? I certainly don’t expect them to win a league and they are not challenging the likes of City, R/S etc for marquee signings.

Run well with a stadium that will see a big uplift in income, I do expect us to close the gap alongside Villa and the skunks
