January Transfer Window 2026

We have known since season started we need a striker and full back. Are we waiting to see who's left on the cheap at the end of the month, should of had something lined up with 2 winnable games coming up
Doesn't really work like that. You can't buy a player from a team who don't want to sell mid-season and there's a whole host of variables about who we want to sign.

Wages, transfer fee, agent's fees, age of player, contract length, player's willingness to join, availability mid-season, scouting dept and manager agreeing on player, competition for the signing, structure of proposed transfer fee, injuries, etc

Everything has to align to get a player in and, as everyone on football will keep saying, unless you want to overspend (and despite now having owners who have money, it's something they won't want to do), January isn't a good time to be getting players in usually because of the fact that most clubs don't want to disrupt things mid-season

Your most likely avenues of success are the loan market and, typically, they're done at the end of the month.

everton and having things lined up don't go together

we are a more of a lets observe and see what happens and then make last minute decisions kinda team

Potential link to Ricardo Pepi from PSV. The 22 year old american striker has had 7 goals in 14 games in the eredivisie so far this season and we have been linked along with Fulham. It is rumoured that PSV want £30m for him, having already turned down a bid of £26m from Fulham. This could just be agent talk to try and get Fulham to increase their bid.

He looks decent in the dutch league, but its hard to judge if that will translate to the the premier league. he looks quick, good touch and decent in and around the box. In todays market, for a 22 year old, £30m is not bad money.

Just feel like it would be really odd to sign another development project young striker who needs time to adjust to the prem.

Scouts have been looking at Guela Doue apparently

being reported online that we are interested in Doue, but there is also speculation in the article that Moyes would prefer premier league experience. I think the French league is probably the closest to the Premier league, in terms of speed and physicality. It would be nice to have a natural RB again, but I dont see the sense in signing him if the manager isnt going to give him a go

The problem is how much does the "finished article" cost? £100m? We are not shopping in those places and even if we were, those players want to be in the champions league and if they are not there already they are prepared to wait.

Adding someone like Pepi for £30m can work 3 ways, he can either become a player proven in the premier league and then is instantly worth twice what we paid for him, so we can sell him, make a profit and reinvest, Or keep him and he gets us to europe.

The third way is it doesnt really work out and we sell him back to PSV in 18 months for £15m having written off £15m

i'd be very sceptical about this because pretty sure chelsea have first dibs on all their talent

I totally agree with all your logic, I generally think we should be taking a decent amount of gambles on players (I was pleased with the Barry, Dibling and Aznou purchases for that reason) but the impression I get is the club would prefer to rotate Barry with a bit more of a solid dependable older player, like a Dovbyk. I may be wrong though!

This needs to stop being a thing real quick. We paid that for Barry, who was 22, and it was bad money. Age shouldn’t dictate whether a fee is decent or not. We can’t go back to just spaffing money on players.
This. We need to buy an up and running ‘striker’. Yes Barry shows signs of improving but to get in euro spots we need a goalscorer now not in tbe Everton never never land of the future….

Thats the reality of the premier league.

Look at the forwards teams signed in the summer; Isak £125m, Ekitike £79m. Sesko £74m, Mbeumo £74m, Cunha £62.5m, Woltemade £65m, Pedro £60m, Gyokeres £64m

The cost for players goes up every season, those players in the £60m to £70m category back in about 2002 they would have cost £30m or less.

Age and length of contract will always be a factor in a players value. Because if you sign a £30m 22 year old on a 4 year contract you can depreciate it over the 4 years, meaning it costs you £7.5m a year.

which means after 3 years you have a 25 year old player, at that point you have 2 options, either sign him to a new contract, or sell him, But being 25 it is more likely that he will still have some value.

Whereas if you sign a 30 year old player on a 4 year contract, by the time they reach the send of that contract they have no inherent value and will most likely be playing on a year to year contract, if they are playing at all.
