January Transfer Window 2026

January seem to be a test of how ambitious the owners are. Every window is a chance to progress or stagnate.

I don’t think their actions have matched the talk yet personally.

It was reported this last week that they thought £200mil was necessary in the summer.

Including the Alcaraz & Rohl fees we spent £145-150mil before add ons.

The choice not to spend the remaining funds would be on the manager.

I suspect he thinks he'd get credit for not spending money.

Funny really how working under Kenwright he didnt spend and he also didnt spend big at United.

I wonder why he didnt push the boat out a bit...could it be that the signings he wanted didnt want to join as we were told?

They need to spend on at least 2 right backs. Thats the bare minimum for me, one instant super right back and a young player to develop.

I think KDH, Garner and Iroegbunam are the only 3 that could be condidered for next season based upon the eye test and manager.

Gana last legs
Alcaraz manager doesnt like
Rohl injury prone

Aznou & Dibling ones for the future
KDH should be an 8

Have to say the big disappointment for me has been signing Travers £4mil & Rohl £17.5mil.

Just chucking away £21.5mil because we had £200mil to spend? No logic to it at all.

Just really annoys me.

Would you choose

A: 2 29 year old full backs and a 30 year old centre forward

Experience may get europe this season

OR

B: 3 u21 high potential young players like Dibling for those positions

Could get europe in following seasons
Who would be your reserve keeper given we can’t really offer any games to them?

Kayode gets the press for his throw ins if you watch him defend he is only ok for me, but there is scope for improvement, and tbh I don't know enough about Wesley.
I think there is a general clamour on this site for a right back who is fast and can attack. I think defending has slipped down the job description list into the ‘it’s a desirable but not essential’ quality, below the ‘has to never have had an injury’ requirement.

How do you get to £145m? I’m struggling to get much beyond £100m!

Many of the modern day full backs seem to be converted wingers, its not easy finding someone who is decent positionally and can recover the ball in their own half but then take it on and support their winger in the opposition half. Look at the great Alexander Arnold once of our neighbours, often seen as the pinnacle for full backs. He is great going forward and supporting but he can't defend whatsoever.

Mix and match, players around Garners - KDH age, with a couple of younger players.

You have to be able to blend youth with experience, not just 1 or the other.
Anyway - Fb's and Striker before any "dreams of the future" signings.

We can't fill a squad with "possibilities"

Option A deffo. Would give us 2-3 seasons to cement a top 7 position and if we did get into Europe we'd have more money to suitably replace them before their legs go.

Depends.

Conference league brings player spend back to 70% of turnover but doesn’t give you the lift in turnover. Could end up restricting spending depending on how far you go.
Tho I’d still love to be in it

Who would be your reserve keeper given we can’t really offer any games to them?

Well this is where it gets interesting as we hage FOUR first team goalkeepers

Pickford
Travers
King
Tyrer

We signed Travers (£4mil) and King (undisclosed) in the summer and of course Tyrer was the subject of a £1mil bid.

I think Tyrer would have been the clear 3rd choice option and I wouldnt have signed the other 2.

For the 2nd choice I'd have gone for a keeper who looked like he could:

A: Be capable of rotating with Pickford or stepping in for him in case of injury

B: Add quality experience or a young player to develop

C: Zero fee for anyone who wasnt A & B.

I think there is a general clamour on this site for a right back who is fast and can attack. I think defending has slipped down the job description list into the ‘it’s a desirable but not essential’ quality, below the ‘has to never have had an injury’ requirement.

I think Kayode is a decent, quick and strong right back, good all rounder and we could have had him for £14mil last January.

With Bournemouth, I wanted Truffert in at LB last January and he was linked under Thelwell. Think he cost them under £15mil.

He's now 24 but theyre an interesting one as they went with 3 young defenders last season in Zabarnyi (another i mentioned) Huijsen and Kerkez. PSG, Madrid & RS now.

Milosaveljavic is playing CB for them and hes only 18. Very interesting recruitment and polar opposite to ours.

Brentford have Kayode who I also wanted last January.

Today i'd expect Truffert and Kayode to cost the best part of £60mil.

Not saying im a wonderful scout as some think i believe, just that these were quite obvious signings we needed.

The Welsh youtuber who comes up with tactics (cant remember his name) picked out Givairo Read from Feyenoord. I'd consider him as one of 2 RB signings.

Moyes now has hand picked people to join the management.

He's the decision maker with Kinnear only signing off on deals once Hammond negotiates the terms.

Eyes are on Moyes.

A Welsh Youtuber, God help us 🫣

How do you get to £145m? I’m struggling to get much beyond £100m!

£0 King
£4mil Travers
£9mil Aznou
£12mil Alcaraz
£15mil Grealish
£17.5mil Rohl
£25mil KDH
£27.5mil Barry
£35mil Dibling

£145mil and thanks not including add ons. So he'll have spent north of £150mil.

Mix and match, players around Garners - KDH age, with a couple of younger players.

The interesting parts are that:

Right back: We have none so we need 2.

Left back: Mykolenko is in talks over a new deal and Aznou seems to be someone for the future.

So at RB we'd need an immediate starter & a young player to compete with him for the starting spot.

Then at LB I dont think there would be many shouts for a new one if we saw Aznou come in and produce a display like Dibling did yesterday. Aznou to replace Mykolenko for next season?

That LB is an interesting issue as either Aznou isnt good enough (odd as he has the pedigree) or was always bought to develop for next season.

If we give Mykolenko a new contract then it tells me there wont be another LB until the summer or not at all.

I'm a little surprised we didnt trigger a 1 year option and sell him in Jan and sign a new player.
