January Transfer Window 2026

Do need to be bringing in players who will be starting in the team for example at rb dont need a project player like dibnling aznou. Need a player ready to come in and take that starting rb postion, disagree with grealish because i kno for me i needed a lift after the last seasons we have had. Grealish for me was a move that has give me hope also maybe also the squad .
I agree with what you say about Grealish and I’ve enjoyed watching him, just feels a bit of a missed opportunity. Yes we definitely need new
starting RB and LB next season and a striker and a centre midfielder. That would be the big 4 positions to improve. But I don’t want us to be buying old
Has beens

Im not sure them 4 do improve us, for what they would cost. Longstaff went to Leeds like I’ve said nobody mid table wanted him. Not watched Brentford, but Henderson has always been overrated. Xhaka getting rave reviews, but we bossed them for an hour. Soucek gets goals, but is not a great centre mid and he’s 31. We do need better long term than garner and gana, but them 4 would cost a lot of money and not improve us.

I think Grealish was a waste, if we weren’t going to get a good striker and a quality attacking left back behind him, then I don’t see the point.

We can go backwards and forwards all day, but what 27 to 31yr olds can we afford and attract that kick us on?? We probably need 4 or 5 to her this team into the top half, but we’d end up buying your Bolaise’s, Schneiderlin, Walcott etc. which would absolutely kill us. And we’ve been down this road before. Maybe Witt the top 6 having monster squads, there is more opportunities to get a better quality bench player off a Chelsea or Utd, Arsenal , than 10yrs ago

Im afraid you'd be very wrong mate, we dont have a midfield worth the name without supplanting it in game in my opinion, if all of the above were in the squad we would be infinitely better, i really find your take out there, in terms of watching us and them and their impacts in their respective teams and competitiveness in the league this season.

Mate my point is not to sign 27-31 year old exclusively, nor all young players exclusively, what i said is you need a blended approach and doing a needs analysis of out squad we have a cliff from late/early 30 down to Aznou and 27/31 experienced bracket is were we are missing players right now to be competitive - thats this squad right now. Ive given you examples of frees, loans and small outlays to show yu you don thave to bank rupt the club to do it. Signng exclusively young players is also self abusive.

But frankly if you want Ivan Toney and a double digit PL striker then get out there and pay the money. This team and squad is crying gout for a bit of experience and nous.

We actually probably are this season.

Yes, we quite literally would be amongst the top 4 right now if we had a proper striker, that is not at all a stretch of the imagination. Alas we have the two worst strikers in the division and are lingering mid-table and are unlikely to get higher this season.
It's been 11 games. The places on the board obviously won't be that close after 38.

We simply are not 1 striker in January away from Europe, and generally people wildly overestimate how much of a difference a single player makes:

Let's say across the season Barry and Beto would score 5 goals total between them. Yes har har they don't look like they'll score any etc but 4 more between them is a pretty likely target to hit across another 27 games.

Let's say instead, in January we hit gold dust and sign a 15-league-goal a season striker (itself extremely hard to find) and they immediately hit the ground running. Let's also say they take ALL of Beto and Barry's minutes, playing 0-90 every game (so we lose out on all of Barry's development, but that's another conversation). There's half the season left so they score 7-8 goals. That's instead of the 2-3 goals Beto and Barry would be scoring. So a 5 goal difference.

If, by the end of the season, 5 more randomly-distributed goals would have got us 7th place, I will eat my hat.

You don’t think a decent striker gives us a strong chance of finishing Top 8?

No, I think we're a ~10-14th level team playing at around ~10-14th quality football.

A good new:

Number 6
Left Back
Right Back
AND a decent striker (which I still hope is Barry settling in, but obviously might not be)

Then yeah top 8 is on the cards. But that's next season.

I say we make do this season and go again in the summer. I know that seem unambitious but I would rather we develop some of the talent we've invested in than go hell for leather for an outside chance of Europe/short term gain.

That's what all of the clubs we aspire to be have done. Bournemouth, Brighton, etc etc.

We end up with what we had at the end of the Martinez era which was a dads and lads squad. A load of mid 30s players at one end of the scale and teenagers and under 22s at the other. We then tried to rectify this under Koeman by going for players in their prime with PL experience Gueye Schneiderlin Bolasie Siggurdson Keane being the main ones.

Gana aside we scouted the right profile but the wrong characters and a complete lack of pace in any of them after Bolasie had burst his ligament.

We need to make sure we get it right this time if we’re shelling out big money on proven names.

Regardless of age mate - its got to be the right players. ;

We should and could have got those players in the summer. Same with 8th place this should have been our target this year. I wouldn't trust Moyes with any more money if I was TFG.

If they’d have let Moyes spend we’d probably have a decent striker by now. Unfortunately our 30 man recruitment/DOF bods decided to get Barry.
