January Transfer Window 2026

We shouldn't be wasting a single penny on prospects. We need players for the here and now. Starting striker in January, and at minimum another rotation striker, starting right back and Grealish/starting winger in the summer, potentially a starting centre half as we might be down to O'Brien, Keane and Tarkowski only which clearly isn't (good) enough.
Why, because we're competing for trophies this year? Because we're just one striker away from Europe?

Overpaying for players who are already at their peak would be such a waste.

Such a dated take on the modern game this.

Fullbacks are pivotal to how the games played these days. Look at how Liverpool have dropped off because they've not replaced AA and Robertson well.

We desperately need 2 quality fullbacks and have for 5 years.
This is bang on. Not having an attacking fullback (or at least a competitive fullback with pace to get forward occasionally) really does stifle a teams attack. You only have to look at how Fulham have missed Antonee Robinson. And its not just the attacking options they bring, its as much forcing the opposition to sit back, giving them another thing to worry about. A pair of quality fullbacks would transform our team. Myko is solid enough on the left defensively (if a bit lacking in attacking threat) but we are desperate for some pace and quality on the right. I'd love us to be able to play a back 3 and have bombing fullbacks on either side.

Great post.

With prime Seamus and Leighton pinging balls in they'd be bouncing in nicely off B&B upfront ( albeit they'd still be plenty of misses ).

B&B are nowhere near 'good' at the moment but they could be good enough with proper service down the right.

JOB has been great given he's out of position, likewise Garner.

But a turbo charged modern RB overlapping and getting to the byline opens teams up and means our forwards don't have to time runs, turn defenders, run channels, make neat touches etc. Just run forward and poke the ball in. They're both capable of that ( ignoring Barry's sitter at Sunderland.)

Myko isn't quite there, like DCL never was. We love these lads forever cos they're Everton.

Royal needs time.

But big Jake is fine looking CB, and Myko is a back up squad player.

Dibling is another ego-driven agent wet dream pay day, the type of which I hope we've seen the last of.
Who’s Royal ?

And Dibling is a young lad , he’s 19 ffs
What do you want him to do rip it up every week, also our 2 best players play in his position. I’d rather be spending on young players, than these late 20/30yr olds for big money who were second rate, like Bolaise and Walcott etc. Moyes bought a few of them at West Ham like ward prowse for 30mil.
Let’s hope we’ve seen the last of that

💯
The other thing that I’ve always said is we cant get, the best players at 25 to 29. So we end up with 3rd rate players, who still cost a fortune and want big wages

Dibling is considered one of the best youngsters around, the talk around the club apparently was, we will have one chance to get him. Until we’re competing for Europe and fighting in the top 8. I’d rather we go for youngsters, maybe the odd 31/32yr old who’s left a top club and take gamble on an Ndiaye and JOB in the 15/25mil bracket. Stones and Branthwaite, bought as teenagers for 1mil each, shows what good scouting can do

I dont think it has to be one or other if im honest mate. I think it can be both. In reality it will probably be down to opportunity and dynamics of a deal.

I think the squad could do with an experienced forward and centre midfielder of about 28+ for 2-3 years. We have plenty of players now to develop and hopefully kick on - we can bring in more aslo, but you do need experience for the here and now - its good to develop young players also.

I wouldn't be dogmatic on bringing either younger players or a few for want of a better word Tarkowski's profile in this league.

Yes, we quite literally would be amongst the top 4 right now if we had a proper striker, that is not at all a stretch of the imagination. Alas we have the two worst strikers in the division and are lingering mid-table and are unlikely to get higher this season.

But we wouldn’t stay there, it’s nonsense to think we’d be challenging the top 6 with a better striker.

But which midfielders and strikers are available at 28 that we could attract and
Are good enough to kick us on ??
For 3/4yrs even if we find two, they could cost us over 100mil in fees and wages and both walk away and they probably won’t be top level.

Off the top of my head Toney and someone like Soucek. Them or someone of a similar profile, I don’t want to hear they are not out there - Xaka, Henderson, Paulhina and Longstaff have come into teams this year for next to nothing and made teams competitive to say the least.

I think we have to get away from the penny pinching mentality, this is and should be a different era - if you want an experienced striker who can get double digits in the PL - then go out and spend the money. We have a project for a couple of years in Barry. Similarly we have Armstrong and Rohl.

Someone like Toney is leverageable on a short term deal given Saudi Tax and him wanting to play in the World Cup. As I said above you can be creative and innovative.

If you want to be ambitious and competitive this and next year - go out and spend money. If not then double down on Barry and other development players etc and take the next couple of years on the chin. But if we do people need accept that’s the plan.

Quite visibly the squad is in need of an experienced profile of player in key areas in the Xaka and Toney mould.

You can fill the squad with Aznou’s - but it clearly won’t come off right now - you need the balance and mix of age and expierence profiles.

Big vote coming up on Fri at a PL meeting on PSR so watch this space on the current assumed logic.
