January Transfer Window 2026

Off the top of my head Toney and someone like Soucek. Them or someone of a similar profile, I don’t want to hear they are not out there - Xaka, Henderson, Paulhina and Longstaff have come into teams this year for next to nothing and made teams competitive to say the least.

I think we have to get away from the penny pinching mentality, this is and should be a different era - if you want an experienced striker who can get double digits in the PL - then go out and spend the money. We have a project for a couple of years in Barry. Similarly we have Armstrong and Rohl.

If you want to be ambitious and competitive this and next year - go out and spend money. If not then double down on Barry etc and take the next couple of years on the chin. But if we do people need accept that’s the plan.

Quite visibly the squad is in need of an experienced profile of player in key areas in the Xaka and Toney mould.
That proves my point, all the players you mention are either not the level needed or to old, would cost a lot of money and wages. Paulhino is the only one
Who’s top level and we wanted him, but he chose spurs. The rest I wouldn’t want bar Toney, because we need a striker. For a 6 loan fine, it would depend on what he’s cost and wages because he’s 30 soon.

Soucek Moyes wanted,
Maybe the recruitment team asked the question but got told a ridiculous figure off West Ham and his wages on top, he’d go against everything TFG want to do, so I’m glad they said no.
Longstaff has ended up at Leeds,
Says it all. And Xhaka and Henderson decent experience, im not sure they improve us much,
Will both probably drop off as the season goes on

But we wouldn’t stay there, it’s nonsense to think we’d be challenging the top 6 with a better striker.
It's not nonsense at all! We'd need to get lucky absolutely if we only had one real striker, but there would be a chance — especially since most of those competing teams would be playing about 50% more games than us across the season with European competition.

Sadly a moot point though because even if we get a striker in January all it would do it cement a mid-table place at best, certainly not in amongst the European places.

‘Buy these players before they’re well known like Brighton and Bournemouth do, Everton need to get over this stupid PL experience criteria’

Everton buy young prospects…

‘Why didn’t we buy proven PL players, I don’t want to see any more prospects come into the team’

This is GOT.
Young - they have to be late 20s or 30s to get into a DM team ....

I think it proves the opposite mate, i think it shows a lack of insight into players, teams and league in general and goes back to my original point of not being dogmatic in approach in recruitment demographics.

We had and still have one of the highest average ages of a PL squad, in the league - it definitely needed a ground level injection of youth, problem with that is its slow burning, so now we have an age cliff from Gana down to Aznou and lacking in the middle demographic say 27 -31. That shows in performance and experience and ultimately will be in league position

Its your feeling on ambition and competing in immediacy - sure you pay players for now - but success = success - its on the same logic at Grealish, is he worth 15 mill? What's the point of him really if we are just going to be 10th to 14th? at 31! Based on your rationelle its not clever and a waste of time to have him. But really whats the actual pont of him - unlesss you want to achieve somethign now and that were the 27-31 years old come in.

Frankly if you dont think Xaka or Henderson or Soucek and even Longstaff dont improve us you both haven't been watching us or them this season and the impact they have had in competing in this league. Even Arsenal are rocking Christian Norgarrd.

I find it fascinating that people are so wedded to the buy young thing, i understand the principal and all, but its self abusive to be so dogmatic about it, the best model is clearly a balanced one amongst the ages. Really you wan 3/4 level age steps blended in a squad.

We need a signing that signals to the league that we’re going to keep coming at them. They’ve been used to Everton having a splurge and then needing 5 years of selling players to balance that out, we need to show that window after window we’re going to keep making good signings that improve the squad and we’re not going away like we did after Koeman or after Ancelotti.

Im not sure them 4 do improve us, for what they would cost. Longstaff went to Leeds like I’ve said nobody mid table wanted him. Not watched Brentford, but Henderson has always been overrated. Xhaka getting rave reviews, but we bossed them for an hour. Soucek gets goals, but is not a great centre mid and he’s 31. We do need better long term than garner and gana, but them 4 would cost a lot of money and not improve us.

I think Grealish was a waste, if we weren’t going to get a good striker and a quality attacking left back behind him, then I don’t see the point.

We can go backwards and forwards all day, but what 27 to 31yr olds can we afford and attract that kick us on?? We probably need 4 or 5 to her this team into the top half, but we’d end up buying your Bolaise’s, Schneiderlin, Walcott etc. which would absolutely kill us. And we’ve been down this road before. Maybe Witt the top 6 having monster squads, there is more opportunities to get a better quality bench player off a Chelsea or Utd, Arsenal , than 10yrs ago

Do need to be bringing in players who will be starting in the team for example at rb dont need a project player like dibnling aznou. Need a player ready to come in and take that starting rb postion, disagree with grealish because i kno for me i needed a lift after the last seasons we have had. Grealish for me was a move that has give me hope also maybe also the squad .
