January Transfer Window 2026

Probably. Got to be in for these types though.

It's quite 'amusing' (in a depressing way) that looking at the 11, we essentially need 3/4 of a defence;

Branthwaite the starter & Obrien as 3rd choice ideally. Need Aznou to come through.

Then it looks like we need a CM with Armstrong and Rohl competing with Garner and them to start.

In the attacking areas potentially any of them could be moved on aside from probably Dibling.

Huge amount of work needed and a massive amount of money needs to be spent.

Monga, Rigg, King and the likes have to be looked at for a 'cheat code' while we need clear improvement with starters in certain areas as well.

Hopefully TFG have found a way to drop in another £150mil with all the investments theyve made.
Still living in cuckoo land I see.

Does Rigg even get a start for Sunderland these days ?

Here’s a radical idea. Get a game plan, and then sign players that fit into it.

For years we’ve signed players and then tried to find a game plan to fit them.

Grealish is a tremendous footballer but would say, Bournemouth have signed him? No because he wouldn’t fit in.
KDH, Röhl, Dibling, Alcaraz - all signed without really knowing how they would fit in.

We invested so little for so long and criminally neglected the squad, that in reality it’s going to take numerous windows building layer upon layer, before we have squad that isn’t unbalanced and boom and bust. It feels as if Brighton, Brentford and Palace got instant success, really they’ve just been clever recruiters over a number of years incrementally. We took our first step in the summer.

Success of mid table. Yeah palace have won a cup, but they all continue in midtable obscurity.

We look at their signings as being these fantastic game changers etc. But they are still just mid table clubs.

Despite them being clever recruiters over several years whilst we criminally neglected the squad investing so little, palace and Brentford were only 5 and 8 points (1 and 3 places) ahead of us last season and this season are 2 points clear.

But came from starting bases of the lower leagues mate.

It’s also true at the top as well, take Arsenal, they may win the league this year, but Arteta is a decade incrementally building that squad, window by widow.

Proven scorer though, albeit for his previous club. The question to ask is, is he better than Beto? I’d say yes. So it’s an option.

I'm better than Beto - that shouldn't be the deciding factor. This is:

I still can't believe we didn't sign a RB.
We came close, to be fair. Had a verbal agreement with Tete, only for Fulham to offer the same money so he chose to stay there (probably more about wanting to stay in London than football). I guess after that we gave up even trying which tells you everything you need to know about how our recruitment operates under Moyes
