January Transfer Window 2026

It’s sad that we don’t seem to have any ambition given the position we are in… within striking distance of Europe.
We are not ready for CL football and Id be surprised if we qualified for the Europa (we might if certain results went our way but I have my doubts) The Conference league is a 'no' for me and I would imagine the club feel the seem. The problem is with it is that for the majority of PL teams (yes we fit into this) its a financially negative competition, it will cost us more too play in it than we will ever make. Increased squad costs from transfers/wages to cope with the extra games, unable to charge higher ticket prices due to the level of the opposition, and the poor prize money involved make it a competition most PL teams are actually better avoiding.

….the same Iraola who couldn’t even beat us at their place. The same Iraola with a worst Managerial win record than Sam Allardyce, the only time he’s topped 40% was when Managing in the Cyprus league and even then he got sacked for not winning a game for 2 months 😄
He’s managing Bournemouth, who’ve lost their best striker 18 months ago, 3 of their. Best defenders in the summer and thier best player 2 weeks ago. Moyes took Sunderland down and did terrible in Spain
At least he still tries to play on the front foot and win games, there’s not a chance Moyes wins that game from 2-2 last night, he’d have thrown 2 defenders on
On played for a draw

Conference would be well better for us than Europa League. Rubbish teams that we could play 2nd team in the group stage. Easier to win.

Doubt we lose any money entering it but wouldn’t care how much we lost if we won a pot.

It's not a lack of ambition avoiding over paying in January for players we don't want.
Paying 15-20mill for a right back is not overpaying. Why did we not bring in this Arsenal kid who went to Marseille as cover on the wing ?. And yes 40mill for Strand Larsen is a lot but it will be a similar price in the summer for some one like him or similar a lot of competition from other clubs

I agree but I don’t think our owners want European football at the moment:

- they would have to divest their interest in either Everton or Roma under multi club ownership rules
- we don’t have the squad to cope with the extra games
- the UEFA financial rules are tougher (70% squad cost limit vs 85% in the PL from next season)

and yet we will finish above them!

Please correct me if I’m wrong butt if we did OK (last 16) in the Conference then would that not give us some ranking points for future years playing in Europe?

If so then not a waste of time in the long term.

Would give a chance for fringe / younger players to get some competitive games, learn to travel and play in Europe.

There would be no need to send the senior core team (Pickford, KDH, Ndiaye, Grealish, Tarkowski, etc) on the plane for a midweek trip to Moldova, just keep them at Finch Farm training for the Premier League fixtures at the weekend
