I've said this lots of times already, but if you'd seen him getting bullied in the U21s, you would have to have taken leave of your senses to have him playing full back in our first team.

I don't think Moyes did a good enough job of emphasising just how far off it he looked.

Now he may well have been in the gym solid for the last couple of months etc, but you could maybe criticise Moyes for not managing to get him more minutes on the wing before now, I'd find it an insane argument to suggest that we should have been playing him in our defence before now.

I think the point is that he was signed as a left back and everyone is now demanding that he plays as a left winger after 34 mins against a team which had played 86 mins. That isn’t a criticism of him but he’s got a long way to go to replace either winger, Dibling or McNeil, given that he’s a full back learning his trade in his third country in 4 years, none of which are his country of birth.
