January Transfer Window 2026

Assuming you are comparing those two things because of common ownership: They're a couple of years into the Roma project and Roma are in with an outside sniff of the title. Strengthening makes sense if the owners' aim is to win trophies.

We're trundling along to a mid-table finish. Nothing we could do in this window will be seen as transformational, so we'll keep our powder dry until the Summer.

As always, not what I want to happen, just what will IMO.
However much I would like us to make Europe I do think its likely unwise to force. Our depth is poor, even with a good summer, I think it could be very possible we could be in relegation scraps again if we were splitting priorities next year with mid weeks in Bosnia. Especially if that came off of January business which is often inflated, and thus would likely cut into funds available in the Summer.

What I wont move away from though is the need for fullbacks now, because I think it extends past results chasing. We have massive decisions on the wing this summer, from deciding to make Jack's deal permanent, or if N'Diaye is expendable etc. Not to mention help Diblings development to not be isolated. And If nothing else from the remainder of the year, we need to better understand what Barry's potential in this squad is longterm.

All of those variables I think come to a far more informed position with fullbacks that have any version of substance in the final third. From assist creation/linkup and thus chances to parse for Barry or creation possibilities for our wingers to either inflate value or show full creative prowess, Id argue its a must.

If that addition bare's europe so be it. But I think thats sensibly treating the window.
