January Transfer Window 2026

Boring stats reasons I'm excited by Holm - among all fullbacks (around 260 of them) in top 5 leagues he is:

1st for possession-adjusted interceptions
3rd for percentage of defensive duels won
5th for possessions won

So elite defensively. But also:

10th for key passes
15th for cross accuracy
16th for expected assists
22nd for crossed to the box

So excellent in contributing to attack too. Just feels like a great fit
Moyes loves the first section of those stats so I reckon it’s a goer!

For all the previous posts. If we don’t at least sign a functioning right back, in this window, it isn’t because there isn’t one on our tiny planet, willing to come here.

It’s because our new owners have no ambition for us.

Nobody owning this club, with the intention to improve, would go, yeah JOB, we’re sorted at right back.
Myko must be delighted that JOB is playing right back though. The need for a LB is equally as pressing.

What player would you prefer out of the two?
Holm. I like the pace and directness of Norton-Cuffy, but I think that Holm is a much better player overall.

The caveat is, I have seen Holm quite a few times now and Norton-Cuffy, maybe twice 🤷 so he has a smaller sample size.

EDIT: stats would seem to back up the eye test:

This is true, there's a story how he got exasperated with a young David Beckham failing to execute a set piece routine and Hoddle patronised him by showing him how it's done acting like it was a piece of cake. Think I read that story in Stan Collymores autobiography which was one of the better autobiographies I've read

Yeah, theres a wrestler called shawn Michaels and hes regarded as one of the greatest ever wrestlers. He had a wrestling school in the 90s early 2000 and everyone who went there said he didn't have a clue.

talking about autobiographies i read neil warnocks the other day. Really enjoyed it although the best ive read was cruyffs got a few pages to the end and could never bring myself to finish it. Sounds stupid but it feels like once ive finished it, hes dead then isnt he

I just want a functioning Rb, stats or no stats, don't care. just a Rb..

I'll give you crazy stat, that shows you have to look beyond numbers.

Donurrumma is/was up the top on plenty different stats, like his passing out to players, when under pressure.

But when you looked at it from the other side, those players were top for being caught straight away in posession.

Just because a pass reaches a player doesn't make it a good pass..

Sorry, waffling. Just give us a Rb..

Does DM know what that position is ? - hes only had since last June to sign one ?

It does feel a little philosophical at this point. What is a right back? Is there even such a thing as a right back? If the right back speaks to you, does that mean that in some way, you are the right back? What does the right back really mean, to you? To us?

Is it possible that we are all the right back? How can the right back truly exist when the concept of right and left are so ephemeral, so abstract? Is football even a thing? What actually is an Everton?

Have I drunk too much beer? What truly is too much beer? Is it this much?

It’s prolly a bit less than this. Whoopsie

I agree. The situation is desperate. I cannot believe that we've gone from a club that had prime Baines and Coleman to having JOB (who I rate as a CB, but not a FB) and Mykolenko. The mind boggles.

I'd be happy with either, but I really like Holm. He's skilful and direct (in a way that is surprising when you look at him) and a good passer and crosser, but an absolute unit too. Ticks Moyes' boxes, and ticks mine as a fan, so we should really make a push for him imo. Plus, he's in his mid 20s so it is unlikely that Moyes will treat him like 💩 and ignore him.

That reads like one of our Scouting Reports..

Totally mate, I don't know Holm's game, but if you say he's good, he's a Rb, and a good age for Moyes. Then i am fully behind it.
