Something to do with the weather maybe?Given that all the top players play in Europe, I’m surprised AFCON isn’t played off season, like Euros & World Cup.
Whole world shouldn't revolve around Europe

These are the gems which keep me coming back to this forumAt least buy her a glass of wine first
Why the change habit of a lifetimeCourse it should.
'Why is AFCON played in January' is so daft it doesn't even need addressing.
'Why is it played every two years' almost none of the continent's top players play for clubs in Africa. It's their only opportunity to play on home turf, and fans only opportunity to see their country's football heroes. Every 2 years feels about the minimum for that.
Moaning about AFCON is so arrogant and entitled

I'm not buying that one - plenty of European nations have most of their national team playing outside their home country'Why is AFCON played in January' is so daft it doesn't even need addressing.

Because those are different people who set up their cup differently mate. Odd question! So why is the Asia Cup every 4 years since all of this applies to those nations too![]()
A huge Merlin Rohl fan from Germany (I may be reaching a bit here...) and a Senegalese chap who idolises Gueye have slightly different opportunities to see their hero.I'm not buying that one - plenty of European nations have most of their national team playing outside their home country
The January bit is self-explanatory, but I've never seen a convincing argument about the 2 year cycle
Flavour of the month for the last 12 - 18 months, that's a pretty sweet taste..Absolutely not. They are the latest flavour of the month managers.
No, but it certainly plays a factor in the appeal of signing them. You would think the players would look at it the same way, though you're not going to turn down a call up to your national team..Bit OTT isn't it
Other than it being inconvenient to us PL tossers, quite a fun tourney
Certainly not wank

African football has added so much star quality to the premier League over the last few decades and it's not as if people don't know AFCON is held every two years when they sign a player.A huge Merlin Rohl fan from Germany (I may be reaching a bit here...) and a Senegalese chap who idolises Gueye have slightly different opportunities to see their hero.
Then there's all the UEFA competitions where players play all across Europe.
Most African national team players left the continent when they were still teenagers and play every single game of their careers bar AFCON thousands of miles and multiple flights away. If a player's peak career is usually around 10 years, 5 opportunities to play on their home *continent*, not even country, seems understandable.
