January Transfer Window 2026

…..he had a major thigh injury soon after joining us. There us an argument that it was preventable given he was thrown straight in despite the player saying openly that he’d not had a pre-season and complaining of fatigue.

I think criticising the Rohl acquisition is entirely reasonable, we should steer clear of players with poor injury records. In his case, however, I do think there’s a chance he could still be ok given the type of injuries he has are not particularly repetitive.
That's the problem....we can't afford "there is a chance..." when we have a paper thin squad. We need players that are fit most of the time. Merlin is not one of those. Our squad is far too small and we have players in there that shouldn't be like patto or Coleman. Takes those 2 out of the equation and is a joke the size of our squad

I think this season is a perfect opportunity to aim for Europe, you have 9 teams currently Europe and the sky six teams seem to be more vulnerable. Obviously we have flaws in our squad but I think we could compete for an European position with a couple more acquisition over the Jan window. I'm tired of this wait till another year spiel , if it doesn't I'll accept it but let's at least make a go of it , we've won some matches you asked me a couple months ago I didn't think were feasible. I could drop dead in the next couple months I want to see the best team results possible not keep devoting my time watching a mediocre club

….agree, although there is the chance that Rohl now has an extensive injury free period of football and it’s seen as a good signing.

It’s too early to write him off as a disaster even if the signs aren’t great.

Unfortunately the Europe dream ended the day the window closed and Barry and Beto were our strikers. A new striker in Jan would have to fit in really quick and score a good few goals for us to make Europe.

Barry for me would do well to have some one on one coaching with a decent ex PL striker who can give him some info/ideas/tips on playing in this league.
I'll get this in before @davek suggests it my son.

God bless.

Disagree entirely. An upgrade on Barry would have scored, generously, 2 more goals in the league (he has 1 goal from an xG of 2.7). Assuming that sort of rate of difference will continue is simply not really how it works, so you can't assume an investment would return that many more goals in the second half of the season - he's also been doing all the other bits of being a striker pretty well, so you also have to find a striker who presses just as much, wins as much in the air etc etc otherwise the opportunity cost goes up.

On the other hand, we have been playing like a lower-midtable team in terms of our overall performances, and again over the course of the season the reality of that will likely catch up to our actual table position. Fullbacks have a bigger impact on overall team play - they get almost exactly twice as many touches of the ball as our strikers *every game* AND there's the two compounding factors of a) our wingers are our most potent asset on the field and they're being limited like no other wingers in the league are due to lack of support or even anyone to pass to and receive from and b) it would cost us 20-30m max to upgrade RB to immediate top-half quality compared to about 70m at striker.

Sorry that was a bit of a waffle haha
So you think a better striker would get exactly the same chances as Barry. Like strikers just stand there waiting for the ball?😂😂😂😂😂

I think it is more than just a striker, teams just double up on Grealish and NDaiye, our creative outlets.

If we have modern full backs going past them I think it will lead to more space for our most creative players and also increase deliveries in to the box especially if they have delivery like Digne did...
