January Transfer Window 2026

2 full backs and a striker.

If we only got a right back in what is normally not the best value of transfer markets then that'd do me for now. With LB being Mykolenko then it's covered. If we got a decent option in for both full back positions then that'd be a superlative window.

If we got a striker ... my head would be blown.

So my realistic hopes are a decent experienced RB with some attacking nous. And then hopefully in the second half of the season start to see the likes of Rohl and Dibling getting a bit of action and Barry to start knocking a few chances in and getting up to speed; and in the background, a new LB and striking option in early doors in the Summer and then a long boring summer transfer window with just a bit of refresh with maybe a maverick like Grealish re-loaned. But that's for the next transfer thread.

Because we are 4 points off 4th having played the entire season without a striker. Is it even controversial? A decent striker improves this team far more than a new right back or left back. Striker is a much more important position.
Disagree entirely. An upgrade on Barry would have scored, generously, 2 more goals in the league (he has 1 goal from an xG of 2.7). Assuming that sort of rate of difference will continue is simply not really how it works, so you can't assume an investment would return that many more goals in the second half of the season - he's also been doing all the other bits of being a striker pretty well, so you also have to find a striker who presses just as much, wins as much in the air etc etc otherwise the opportunity cost goes up.

On the other hand, we have been playing like a lower-midtable team in terms of our overall performances, and again over the course of the season the reality of that will likely catch up to our actual table position. Fullbacks have a bigger impact on overall team play - they get almost exactly twice as many touches of the ball as our strikers *every game* AND there's the two compounding factors of a) our wingers are our most potent asset on the field and they're being limited like no other wingers in the league are due to lack of support or even anyone to pass to and receive from and b) it would cost us 20-30m max to upgrade RB to immediate top-half quality compared to about 70m at striker.

Sorry that was a bit of a waffle haha

Definitely need a top notch RB or a high potential one.

Left back wise, regarding his contract having a years option we've basically got 18months on Mykolenkos deal.

Id try to loan Lewis-Skelly from Arsenal and sell Mykolenko.

By the summer there should be a decision on Aznou.

Alan Myres named dropped Botafogo right full Vitinho this morning, says the club are interested ahead of the window but haven't bid or anything yet.

That was last weeks news. I'd be part angry and part disappointed if we signed him.

We could have signed a far superior Brazilian player last Jan in Wesley.

This smacks of downgrading for 'premier league experience'.

Its unusual for Myres to name drop, we know he can be funnily vague, so there must be bit of intent mate.

Cant say i remember him in the PL but Carlo has given him his debut for Brazil recently enough and hes won the Copa Libertadores and the Brazilian Serie A this season. Kompany appears to to highly rate him also.

I don't think were in a position to turn our noses up at a full back and Jan is a marginal game window always in my opinion, if he comes in and does a Charly ill be happy enough.

We couldn't. He was very clear that he wanted to join Roma and play for Gasperini

Carlo will give him the Toffee sales pitch

You know what I hope things have really changed at the club.

A lot will remember back when we would be top 4 around Christmas time needing say a midfielder or a striker or winger to help us get over the line under Moyes... we wouldn't sign a soul and finish 6th.

Hopefully we see there is a huge opportunity here, especially once AFCON is over and we have back Branthwaite and Rohl to do something amazing.

Hell I'd go for Hinchcliffe and Barrett right now.

With hindsight both were far better than given credit for at the time - but it's only because the team that came before them joining was still full of the magnificent 80's team.
If anyone doubts our Lord can perform miracles then Earl Barrett playing professional football should convince them my son.

God bless.
