January Transfer Window 2018

Cavani to EFC maybe ... if you pay him 300 a week!

I have a feeling that RK is going to spend another truckload of money on another ageing, slowish, player with no resale value and my money would be on Giroud.

The problem we have is the elite players don't want to join us. So the only way to close the gap is to sign players on the way up with the hope that they turn into top class players that will enable us to compete. Keane, Pickford and Sandro were good signings in this respect but investing in Rooney (clearly past it), Siggurdsson (28 and already failed at top 6 club) & Klassen (24 and still operating in the Dutch league) were mistake. I also believe Bolasie was a poor signing (27 year old unproductive)

It's September.

Wait a bit longer before making totally sweeping statements.

Also, Bolasie has been massively missed for the duration of his injury. Pace, strength, puts in a wicked cross. All things we DON'T do.

Could easily have been more but it's the combination of that plus unnecessary early sale without replacement which adds up to the mess. Especially when we see coutinho scoring for Liverpool now and he was wanting to leave just as much as lukaku.

Early in the context of the window but not early in the context of Lukaku's overall time with us. He's stayed with us 4 seasons which is longer than Suarez stayed at Liverpool. We undoubtedly had an agreement with him to let him go this window which it looks as though we've honoured. This tells other top prospects and their agents looking at us 'ok I can deal honestly with Everton'. Liverpool effectively holding Coutinho hostage is great for all their current players undoubtedly but any future Suarez wanting to play for Barca or Madrid look at that and think 'I'm not going to Liverpool'.

Lukaku's sale was inevitable. We got very good money for him and tbh he had no interest in playing for us anymore.

This! the last 4 or 5 games of both last season and the season before he was a passenger, he only came to life when talking to the media about leaviing us. I was quite happy to see him go and get the money we got for him (pre Neymar it appeared a good deal) but we should have ensured a replacement was in before selling him.

We did not play the situation well. We should not have sold until the repkacement was signed. Would be interesting to know if we even enquired about Martial as part of an exchange. It might sound far fetched now but he was completely out of favour last season.

So just to recap what we think we need then the lads:

•A proper good old fashioned no.9. Preferably someone we've heard of.

•A centre back who isn't Williams or Jags

•A left back

•Someone who can run proper dead fast and that.

Have I missed anything?

He played 6 games less than the season before, he was definitely not even close to being out of favour.

.

You are right. One positive out of the whole affair is other players will take note that lukaku and the buying club easily get their way. (But it also implies that Everton is willing to agree to players demands even if it hurts the club badly) .

Agree with this. We need to build up a good rapport with agents and clubs. Can't be seen as a team who's hard to deal with. Not as if we can throw the kind of money that City or Chelsea can to land whoever we want.
