January Transfer Thread 2020

It is you’re right, but he doesn’t seem overly bothered does he? The consensus seems to be that he remains ambitious and will continue to invest in the squad. Mistakes have been made by Moshiri no question, the biggest one appointing Steve Walsh and trusting him with his cash. But that hasn’t stopped him from attempting to remedy those mistakes and he’s still by all accounts, intent on investing in the squad.
You’ll always get a greater chance of success with this kind of owner than you will with the majority of other owners in this league who are not so generous with their cash!
For this month, January. “Long term investment in the squad won’t be affected”.
It’s not been easy but have faith... Usmanov will not be here just to make up the numbers.

This guy is one of the richest men in the world. He wants success.
Build the squad but for me moshiri and Usmanov main job is to ensure this stadium is built and for me everything is going well

The financials aren't coming as a shock to anybody, we just have to work on the basis that if Ancelotti is satisfied with the figures in terms of projected transfer spending over the next few years, then we will have to be too.

The next few seasons are about reforming off-field processes as well as getting results on it. It isn't all about spending tens of millions each time a problem is identified. It does mean that we really have no room for failed transfers anymore be they of the more flashy or less glamourous type and that is the onerous part, and that's why the detail of the relationship between Brands and Ancelotti is critical.

We have got our elite manager and are hopefully going to see construction of the stadium begin in the next 12 months. Of the three critical elements, one is in place (manager) the second is work in progress (stadium), and the final and most obvious and important one - the squad - is not there yet and not close.

For me it is about sound decisions from now on and admitting to and learning from mistakes made. I think the rebuild of the team to make it competitive will be on a timeframe roughly on par with the stadium build. Ancelotti has a 4 1/2 year contract and I expect he'll need all of that time to get us in a position where we need to be.
Says it all really. Excellent post

Great post

Does 'The Star' think they only just found out about this? A complicated series of routines in a database and spreadsheets worked frenetically for months and in last few days poppped out some numbers that show a record loss? There is no blow dealt, all this has been known for a long time.
It's possible that most of the shareholders weren't aware how bad the situation was until the numbers were shared with them ahead of the AGM

And yet given that Koeman had just managed to get Soton into Europe it made perfect sense, that's football for you.Players and coaches are only as good as their last game.

He got Southampton into europe the season before, the following season he had an abysmal run of form with them. Southampton was the best he did in any decent league. Valencia he had 30% win....

Everywhere else he was a decent team in an awful league (Portugal, Holland)

Many have been flagging the finances for months if not a year, as recently as yesterday we were discussing them and how much of a mess they are in the Usminov thread.

They are as they are now and we need to suck it up and take our medicine. They are born of poor decision making by Moshiri and the board. Not necessarily with bad intentions as investment was made with good will. Its just incompetent decision making in terms of recruitment on players and managers and to be honest a bit of throwing good money after bad.

What needs to be remembered in a way is that Moshiri has to a degree paid for his mistakes, he added extra capital believe it or not to this set of accounts despite our loss and i also heard from a good source last night that he also added capital for our summer spending this summer that wont show on the coming set of accounts.

The way the business is being run at the moment isnt sustainable. The accounts will show that. Addressing that is still at least a two year game, as it will be about regulating an over paid, often ineffective bloated squad. It miht also mean selling a high profile player we may not want to. Many of the contracts you would like to see an end of are up from 20-22. So some of it is a waiting game. And wiser investments are required.

It is however unfortunate that we might have the right appointments in place in Brands and Carlo, at the wrong time for the club financially, typical Everton stuff.

...yep, Everton are not alone in having problems appointing the right manager. The DoF is just as crucial a post in the modern game and Walsh was very, very poor especially given he brought in the likes of Tosun after Koeman.

i imagine we will look to sell as many of the fringe players as possible, including Jonjoe Kenny.

Thing is, for how Allardyce sets up, Tosun kind of made sense.

However the club knew they'd bin off Allardyce at the end of hte season when he was appointed, so to spend £25m (ok it's not that big of a transfer fee anymore) on him was a bit crazy.

Dont know why people worry about financial losses.

Man City and Chelsea posted record losses until they got CL football - as will we.

You post profits if you sit in the league spending the bare minimum reeling in the TV money. You make losses if you make big money signings which dont work out / dont result in CL qualification.

Basically as long as Usmanov / Moshiri have plans for us long term I couldnt give a toss - its a totally different situation to posting record losses with BK as owner having spent nothing in 2 transfer windows.

Tosun can’t even play Allardyce football. He can’t even win a header

Having a bad run while in the EL isn't that rare.I don't remember that many forum posts unhappy when we appointed him.Silva on the other hand had a touch of insanity about it,who in their right mind takes on someone who was sacked while half way through getting Watford close to relegation?

It is a problem really. You cant just give money to the club no matter who is backing it. To put it very simply for the mens senior team to progress (away from the stadium, youth, and womens teams) the club dont need capital they need income.

Its not as straight forward as it used to be for an owner to gift money (capital) to his club, their are limits of that in FFP. Its about income now and growing that, not capital even our owners have plenty of it.
