January 2015 transfer window ( No GIFs allowed )(Nor fish puns ffs)

It is becoming more likely by the day that our transfer dealings will be somewhat limited, if anything occurs at all.

Mark my words, if we only sign a goalkeeper during this window then Martinez's credibility will be further chipped away.

Stubbornness? it's because you can't as a manager, it costs too much.
Nowadays, you have your formation, kids in the Academy will play it at all age groups so it's engrained. The transfer policy/scouting looks for players that fit into that formation, and it would require the re-education of the 70-80% of players that could make the switch.

When a new manager comes in and changes the philosophy of a club there is usually a huge turnover of players and a downturn in performance while everyone gets used to it. Look at the problems ManUre are having trying to switch to a back five. Hell, even going more direct shows up a lack of ability in long range passing and requires the replacement of tippy-tappy footballers who are comfortable in possession. Players are chosen to play in a style or formation, change that and you have to look at other players.

I think we're talking about different things...

I back Martinez and that's the biggest worry for me, his credibility amongst fans is dropping day by day, some of his interviews of late have got peoples tails up and just add fuel for those who thought he wasn't the right man in the first place.

I know it's a long shot, but a couple of good signings will just raise the mood a little IMO, and may just give Martinez a lifeline amongst those who want him gone now.

Do forgive if this sounds @rse-ish...as mentioned previous; I have ex colleagues, still in the paper/media footy biz, who thus far have offered little in the way of EVERTON inf this window (primarily as they're affiliated mainly to teams 'darn sarffff') aside from the almost verbatim manner in which the MIRALLAS 'ting would be dealt & brushed on return. Also the suggestion being, it appears, that the entire trip was a bit of a 'rush job' as it was felt if this squad/staff didn't have a BIG get together soon then certain relationships would be beyond salvage (note the distinct 'lack' of coverage from trip)...

SO, this morn, quite cryptically, I am informed we are 'close' with one and 'not too far away' with another TX.

But, as with all things journo, may well be ball-cocks. If I hear more, you will...

I fully agree with you. What worries me is that we as fans can all see the problems in the club (in fact we have for a while), yet little is done.

A few positive signings, or positive attempts to rectify this problems at hand, will improve the squad or at least give the fan base a lift.

My major concern is that signing a goalkeeper is not the paramount concern or requirement. If that's all we get, it leaves so much still unresolved.

If we spend £5m on a goalkeeper and not someone who will add some pace and width, then he's leaving himself open for criticism.

Article sounds promising...
And remember that nordic papers does usually not make transfer roumors up from thin air like the rags do in England. I would give this the same credibility as if the Echo should have written it and quoted central sources.

Think he is happy to be 2nd choice until Howard is back, get to know the club until the summer and then fight to be 1st choice when Howard leaves for MLS.

Got you, but we will have a long list of players that we want and would fit the system.
If any of those became available during ANY window then I'm sure we'd try to get them (this list having the same names on it as most of the clubs means we probably won't succeed more often than not).
January is not the window when players we'd want are generally available (maybe only the odd one or two) so of course he's got a downer on it.

Just because he says we won't sign anyone doesn't mean we're not still trying or that we haven't tried and missed out on any number in the last few weeks. Just means from a public point of of view we're not seen as desperate.

I think he'd have to be happy to be Robles' understudy for the time being.

Like Matty says pal, why aren't we spending then if there's money there to be spent and we do need reinforcements?!

Yes, season ticket sales were up, new kit deal with umbro, our best ever deal with Chang, first instalment of the big tv deal money & money left over from sales from the previous season yet we only spend roughly £30m in the summer on transfer and we've done nothing of any note yet this month?!

But you add up the numbers pal. An extra £30m tv money, new £16m Chang deal over 3 years is just over £5m, new kit deal with umbro over 5 years but I'm not sure how much that is worth and then season ticket sales, plus money left over from player sales last season which was £26m in the end after we signed McCarthy for £13m, so you could say we had anything from £50-60m extra revenue compared to any other season right?!

But we roughly spent £30m on players in the summer, gave the manager and a number of players new and improved deals, gave good deals to Barry and Eto'o and also cut our debt by nearly half, so do you reckon we've got a fair bit of money left still?!

I'd love us to have £10-15m lying about this month but I'm just being realistic I think. We might have a little bit left over where we can make a keeper move or a loan or 2 but we won't have any decent amounts of money again until the summer I don't think. But that's just my opinion, that's how I think it all breaks down, it's not gospel.

You don't need to add the numbers. The club stated in their final year accounts we made a 20 odd million profit last year after Lukaku etc.

We have a stadium that needs built. Even the work around the plans and everything else related to the project requires a huge amount of money and that's before any building begins. Who do you think is going to pay for that?

If the money isn't spent either this window or the summer it's because they're using it to fund the plans for the new stadium. If that happens I wouldn't be surprised if a few big names go.

Yes.

Calf strain my arse.

He wanted out of the fray.
He's said several times he doesn't want to play in the MLS. He signed a four year contract and has been a complete professional for his entire career. What fray? It's not as if this is the first time he's played for Everton when we've had a bad season. Is the hatred for our manager so bad that people are now moving on to our players as well?
