2024/25 James Tarkowski

No surprise that since Branthwaite has come back in, Tarkowski has improved a lot and the clean sheet record speaks for itself.

Surprised people don't like his antics because we often hear from a significant section of the fanbase how our players are too nice etc. Michael Keane is a classic example of being too nice.

I personally love how Tarkowski plays and think he gets unfair criticism at times. He's never going to be a John Stones type defender but he's very much in the Category of Gough, Jagielka, Weir & Stubbs. A classic British Centre Half and there aren't many of these types of players left in the modern game.

So to summarise, you're saying Everton fans just like to moan?

Of all the players to moan about - Tarks should be some way down the list. His 'problem' is probably being reliable, playing most matches - so fans are just bored of seeing him.

Familiarity breeds contempt. Especially when the football isn't very entertaining.

He's been good for us overall - I like his narkiness, he can play the psychological game too.

He had some really bad matches at the start of the season, but he's been good for the majority of the times. A proper old school defender, what I really like about him, sometimes also a bit cheekyness. Someone you like to have in your own team, but hate when he plays for the opponent.

People forgot that he played every prem game fully through in the last 2,5y, apart from his sub against United a few weeks ago, and rare to have someone that offers that and very important, as we aren't spoiled with many good CBs.
