Maybe he likes Richy's game.

Either way, whatever it was, I'm sure they'll work it out. James will need someone to play with when pressured

And if Coleman will keep making overlapping runs, James will eventually find him with a freaking pinpoint through pass that will leave the defense poorly set up.

I keep thinking that that was James after 5 days of training with the team.
He strikes me as the type of player that develops a real understanding of the tendencies of the players around him and then plays to them - a clever footballer. It's actually scary to think what he's going to be like in a few months time.

Pretty sure we can train all that talent out of him given time.

First half I recall several times where Seamus made the run but the ball was pinged to Digne instead. I commented on it in the match thread in fact.
I get where you're coming from but it's just because we aren't used to it, and other teams aren't either.

The right hand side was crowded. Richy and Digne had so much space and James was absolutely right to switch play. We're just not used to having a player with the vision and ability to execute it. As the game war on that tactic almost led to 3 goals for Richy.

as teams get to know the ploy they will have to keep players over there to stop it happening, which will just mean more space down the right for Coleman et al to exploit.

I can't wait to see how this season unfolds.

Also, to put it bluntly, we have a FAR higher chance of creating an opportunity from a ball out to Digne than to Coleman. I wouldn't be surprised to see the direction of those passes vary if/when we get a new RB in.

The one thing that keeps sticking in my mind about James,. Like an erotic dream,. Is that sublime swinging left foot cross to Richy. If Richy had put that away what a goal that would have been

Coleman still has a big part to play but he can't play continuous back to back games anymore, and we all know from experience that his final ball is shocking. I'm not convinced Kenny has the physicality needed for a marauding full back, although I'd like to see him start the next 2 games so we can have a look.

I was all in favour of Dalot from United, but I read one of our new Colombian members post in this thread a few nights ago about James now being played on the right of a 433 for Colombia too. He apparently has a fantastic relationship with Arias. I don't think he is the best right back we've spoken of this transfer window, but maybe he is the best fit for us, not just because of the combination with James, but also the one with Mina who he also plays alongside for his country.

Talking of Digne, did you notice the fantastic overlaps he was making allowing Richy to cut inside and take those shots on that went just wide. The amount of space he made up was amazing. That's the sort of thing we need on the other flank.

I think Coleman can still do a solid defensive job, like we saw on Sunday and v Mane on restart. And in certain games he can stay back and give Digne a bit more freedom down the left.

But it’s games like Saturday v West Brom, where you’d expect us to dominate and him get a lot more of the ball intue opposition’s half. And this is where he lets himself down, as his final ball/pass and composure isn’t good enough
