Id like to think Benitez will be one manager who can get the team playing to the sum of all their parts which will hopefully negate any defensive frailties of James.

I feel like that’s why we’ve brought in someone like Townsend. Him and richarlison on the left and right, either side of James doing all the hard work.

I'm not sure they really 'butted heads'.

Benitez's style at Madrid just didn't really suit James. But there was also Ronaldo, Benzema, Bale, Kroos, Modric etc all to fit into the side too.

And James still played a fair bit. Benitez was only there for what, six months.

We don't exactly have those wealth of options at Everton and in Benitez's preferred 4-2-3-1 (going off his time at Newcastle) then with actual wide players there's a spot for James in there.

Rafael ain't going to turn his nose up at the most talented player in the squad.

As many have said, James won't force a move and will happily stay. Unless his agent says he's found somewhere with sunnier a climate.

We're still paying him handsomely that a lot of other teams can't.

In perspective of majority James is irreplaceable in attack but not in the eyes of the manager.
