James McCarthy

Probably come too late to save his career here but still, well in tonight lad. Play like that on Monday night and we'll at least remember you fondly.

Koeman clearly rates him, or he wouldn't play him over Barry in a game like this.

More performances like that and he won't leave unless he requests it and we get a big offer.

Still desperately need another midfielder in like, but there's a few that need to be binned off before McCarthy given that Gueye is gonna be out for month with the AFCON.

He has to start the next game, as much as I love Barry - we need that pace in our midfield against that mob that he lacks.

Arsenal were incredibly dangerous, but the majority of their chances came from getting wide and cutting balls back into the box - their goal aside of course, and that was because Barkley, Gueye and McCarthy all had the legs to cover the centre of the pitch.

Against teams we can dominate the ball in a bit more, Barry should still play (at least until we get other players in), but against teams who play with pace in the middle, it's time to go down a different route.

by an absolute country mile his best performance in too long a time that I can't actually remember his last game.

Said it in the Coleman thread, a performance of saying "my Everton career is on the line, I'm. gonna give it all I've got"

All he has is probably not enough bit fair play, he put a mammoth effort in and it was superb to see. Well played James.

Because our team has been so pathetic for so long, that single McCarthy performance tonight, for me, has earned him a spot against Liverpool. Show some faith, Ronald, and reward that faith, James.

For that reason I don't think Jimmy Mac will be allowed to leave in January.

Especially not after a performance like that :)

Be livid if he doesn't start Monday night, him and Gueye dominated from 20 mins on. The Derby calls for aggression, can see Barry starting and McCarthy going out right instead of Valencia, I wouldn't agree with either move personally.
