Watched him tonight, off the ball as well. He's never going to be what we need, his forward play is non existent. What he does bring, is someone who is willing to go through a player and get the crowd going. Someone who will work and work.

Tonight, he was good and what we needed. Going forward, I wish him all the best at Celtic.

Honestly not a surprise his best game is when we press and hound teams, made this point towards the back end of last season, he needs the players around him to press at the same time otherwise he looks lost and useless, he's never going to be a magician on the ball but will put in a shift in a high intensity system.

Injuries haven't helped him but in games like today he still has something to offer and it might be interesting to see if him and gueye can strike up a partnership with barkley being the one with a bit more license when going forward.

He's a dog but he's our dog. Him and Gueye could do well once they start a run of games together, let it happen, Barry isn't getting younger and he usually has a stinker against the shyte anyway.

This is the J Mac from the first year under Martinez.

More of that, lad

And he won the free kick that resulted in the corner we scored from, finding a way to continue runs forward, like his brilliant goal against United

Mccarthy is limited. I'm a fan of his. I'll admit that with the ball he offers very little. He should do better. But what he can offer is aggression and ground cover. Win the ball. Pass it 5 yards. Win a tackle pass it 5 yards. Simple but very very effective. But he can only be effective in the correct position . Which is in Barry's position. What Barry does is slow down Everton and he does not have the legs through no fault but age anymore. I posted a question how would we play without Barry. Tonight was our answer. Higher intensity. Mccarthy cannot play with Barry. It is that simple. For me gana and Mccarthy in center midfield for 4/5 matches to see how they get on.
