James McCarthy

Not one for slating players. Especially not when they're putting in a shift. McCarthy certainly falls into that category for me. Very impressed with his form since Arsenal. Really seems to be back to his first season best.

Still, I can see him move on during the summer. Don't think he'll be content with being fourth choice at best. Imo that's what he'll be if Gueye, Schneiderlin and Davies are all fully fit and in form. That and with Besic due back soon we have a lot of midfielders for two or at the most three spots. Not that I want to get rid of him, just think that he's too young, ambitious and good to be on our bench for 80-90% of the time.

I can see him getting game time next year, especially if we achieve Europe. We have genuine competition next year with him in the squad, which we need to compete on numerous fronts. Also Koeman seems to want to rotate and play 3 cm.

I thinks it's been difficult for JM because of the style of play the Bobby wanted . JM is a pressing midfielder, its the biggest part of his game. We just didn't press as a team so that negated his main quality. I can see him playing a big part to the end of the season

I have him away ahesd of Davis
I suppose so. The lad has done well (Davies). I think he is an energetic player and that's what you get. Tbf to the kid that's what he too has said. He reckons he wants to get his head down and work on what he's good at. Fair dos for that.

Don't think he's as good as Davis, think he'll be pushed out by better quality and wouldn't be surprised if that's not far away with Gana, Schneiderlin and Davies being first choice.

McCarthy is definitely as good as Davis mate in terms of all-round play. Not got the quality from crosses maybe but that's not his game.

And if it were to happen, it would have already.

People need to realise Koeman does value Macca as a vital part of the squad. But, I don't think he sees him as a defensive mid. We've got Barry, Gana and Snides for that role. McCarthy is going to have to prove his worth as one of the forward midfielders - as you noted, alongside Davies and Barks.

So, 3 'DM's - Barry, Gana, Snides.

3 'advanced' - McCarthy, Davies, Barkley

Besic will be factored into either one of those equations as well.

I think Argie meant the Saints' Davis, Dave

(fgs, too many Daves knocking about)

Nah, dont think so. It was just a typo that's all.

...and you can never have enough Dave's. It's been declared the name of the most reliable men in the English speaking world apparently. Dave's are stand up guys.
