I'm trying to remember exactly what he did in that first season that made me rate him so highly.

He used to be everywhere, forward balls, aggressive, top tackle's, running forward with the ball. I'm starting to believe his injures have taken their toll and he been told to calm it down on the pitch. Because he doesn't run as much, he is slower, lost abit of heart and always passing backwards and sideways.

He was quicker, more focussed...so the little things like link-up play in the middle, interceptions/tackles and cover were done quite effectively.

As with all the other players he's lost some focus (and fitness), so now his little contributions aren't as successful and he looks almost useless.
