James McCarthy

Im a fan, I think hes been superb all Season, he was awful last night, but I personally thought the whole team, Mirallas aside was utterly shocking, good players dont become bad players after 1 game, he will bounce back, the whole team will, Villa will get spanked 8-0 on Saturday.

Don't get me wrong, I'd give him a 5/10 at absolute most. But I can think of at least 6 or 7 players who were even worse last night, so anyone singling him out is being unfair.

Kev was genuinely the only player to have anything better than a poor game. The rest of them shouldn't be singled out though, just maybe all put in a small, dark room and pelted with golf balls until they repent.

This thread has me scratching my head. He's been very, very impressive this season. Just because he (and everyone else apart from a couple) had a poor game against Liverpool everyone is on his back? Don't be stupid.

He's been extremely consistent this season and has a terrific engine on him. If you're heading to Goodison this weekend, make an effort to actually watch him, you'll be impressed.

Spot on! This forum is a joke, when we're winning it's so positive, one loss and we're doomed. McCarthy and Barry are shocking, Barkley will be sold, Martinez is just Moyes.

Everyone needs to calm down and relax.

Indeed.

We had 2 teams last night, Mirallas who was Everton and the other players, lets call them York City, when 10 players play like morons, its difficult to single anybody out.

Havent read this thread to be honest, but if people are blaming solely McCarthy, I lol.

Yeah, this.

Can't judge anyone based on last night, they were all miles below par.

I think up until the Arsenal game he was our player of the season, since then he hasn't been anywere close to that standard (same goes fir Barry who was shocking again last night but everyone raves over him)

For me McCarthy needs to drive forward more he has it in his locker and I've seen him do it, he has the power and the speed and more importantly the ability. Im not knocking the lad just saying it how it is. Instead of always passing it first time backwards or sideways he has to do more.He is still future captain material and hopefully he will improve these aspects of his game

Kev aside. Want to keep stressing this point as Mirallas was poor for a while but he's been excellent recently. If he was surrounded by players playing to even a basic PL standard last night, we'd have faired a lot better.

I'm sure he's only doing what he's been told. Get the ball back, pass it to someone who's job it is to get forward, hang back to watch for the counter and protect the back four.
Don't know where in this he's supposed to be marauding forward and blasting shots from the edge of the penalty area.

Just want to say - agreed with that, he's improved his form recently, I don't know why, but I hope he keeps it up. Massive threat to the opposition.

As for McCarthy - the whole team had a stinker, and as Goat said - good players don't turn bad over a game. He'll come good, as will everyone, and we'll carry on. The key is to not be too disheartened about the loss really.

Though the had a great game today, even in the first half he was one of the few really digging in. Even managed a few forays forward and slotted in nicely at RB when called upon.

I reckon we got our fair share of the debateable decisions today. Nothing outrageous like. Makes a change.
