Looks like James is getting a masterclass in before the Derby.
The Everton midfielder has only begun working under Roy Keane, but has already picked up some advice on how the game should be played.

“You can see what a dominant midfielder he (Roy) was, hopefully I can pick as many tips up off him along the way. We’re two days in and already he’s given me a few – telling me to do this and do that, its brilliant to be learning from a footballing great.

“He wants you to get on the ball, make tackles, make passes. It’s a massive learning curve for myself to learn from such a footballing hero, hopefully long may it continue.”

YES JAMES.

"I knew the ball was there, somewhere, but I just focused on the ratboys head, I heard after the game that he lost 6 teeth and was knocked out for 3hours, it was worth the red card, I just wanna say thanks Roy, it worked."

In ferdinand's book he talks a little bit about keane.

His first day of training he gets the ball and knocks an easy sideways pass to whoever.

Next thing Keane's bolting across the turf screaming 'we pass the ****ing thing forward at this club'

Imagine what Keane would have done to Joe Allen.

Roy Keane gave me a pair of his boots In 1996. They were Hi-Tec, with a big flip over white tongue On them. I wore them for about 6 months even though they didn't fit me properly. Just thought I throw that in here. Jimmy Mac is gonna be brilliant by the way.

Did they make you run faster?

Think it will do him good getting advice from Keane on international duty, the republic were fortunate he choose them over Scotland.

Scotland didn't want him. They came out to see him at Hamilton a couple of times when he was 15/16 and he was told that there were much better players in the Celtic/Rangers U17's. The Republic asked him a few weeks later, he agreed for family reasons, and he pretty much went straight into their U19's for a couple of games then their U21's (at 17 I think). He got all manner of abuse from away fans for seasons after because he 'turned down Scotland'

The only time Scotland showed an interest was just before he got his full Republic Cap, and that was down to the Press/public lambasting the SFA for ignoring him. James turned them down to show some loyalty to the Country that had shown some confidence in him and had wanted him from day one. He's never looked back.

Keane said:

‘He probably plays a little like me, maybe not as aggressive and is possibly looking to mature in terms of his personality on the teams over the next few years but that will all come.

‘That comes with maturity and when you get games under your belt. But from the way he trained today, and the game we had, he was getting in very good attacking positions and making very good forwards runs which I think is always something I did when I was a young player, particularly at Forest.

‘But I don’t want that to be twisted round that I am comparing him to me, far from it.

‘He is certainly, in terms of getting forward and hopefully over the next few years getting a few more goals to his game, he is going to be a top midfielder. I do think you need to have a few goals in your locker unless you are that real sitting midfielder.

‘He is a very good player. Clearly he is a good player or Roberto Martinez would not have taken him to Everton, if he didn’t think so.

‘I have looked at him over the last few years because Wigan is only down the road from where I live so I have been to see them a few times. He is certainly progressing very very well and certainly when he steps up a level, I have seen him against the very good teams and he has stepped up, which is a very very good sign. My first impression over the last two days is that the boy has a chance of being a top player.’

Yeah...three of my favourite players were muck at managing though...Keane, Southall and Maradona.

Guardiola is a bit stupendous though.

I can see Jagielka managing.

also...yea...McCarthy is boss and cant wait to see him run things for us under oneill and keano.
