James McCarthy

As much as I hate on him if he can stay fit and is happy not being first choice I do see a use in him.

This is the biggest problem. Think he’s decent, but even taking the leg break out of the equation, over 3 years he missed 13, 21 and 28 games in 14/15 16/17 and 17/18 respectively.

Bad luck? Bad training? Or just injury prone now?

All those hamstring injuries is big cause for concern.

Think he can be a good option off the bench to give us that crunching tackle towards the end of a game to see a game out - thinking of flattening any of the rs when we’re winning with ten minutes to go . I hope the break doesn’t take that away from him as other than a bit of ‘steel’ in the middle I’m not sure his skill levels are up to what the manager will insist on. Good heart and will run all day and in some games it’s what we will need as injuries happen throughout the tough periods and fa cup run.
Hope it works out for him.

He's our best CM - even now.
Nah, Andre Gomes is a level above.
However, for that role next to him I don't think there's much between Gueye and McCarthy.

I like James, always have. He times tackles brilliantly and he has a superb ability of slowing down attacks to allow our players behind him to regroup.

Don't really understand anyone that thinks he's guff.

If he returns to the level he was at v Liverpool and Arsenal the season before last then he gets in our midfield. Anything less than that then he doesn’t.
That sums up McCarthy, everyone goes on about the game v Arsenal or Liverpool.
He’s basically a better player with out the ball.
And we aren’t managed by fat Sam anymore, this is a team that wants to dominate possession and McCarthy isn’t good enough for a team like that

Loan in Jan sell in the summer

He was needed against UTD a couple of weeks ago, he would of went right through Pogba!! That game was crying out for someone to smash him, and McCarthy is your man for that
