Every time there is a new post in this thread I feel a rekindling of my hope that some other club has signed him. Then I remember that no club in their right mind would sign a player who has an injury record so bad that he has missed 70 games in the last four seasons, plus every game in this season so far.

He's had one good season for us, and that was too long ago for it to be used as any evidence to support the idea that he is still any good now. He needs to play at least 20 games this season and demonstrate a level of consistent performance if he has any chance of staying here. Anything less than that and we should just ship him off to a Bolton or a Norwich for £5m or £6m and take the loss.

Can't argue with any of that, well put too.

I like him but know it's because of that first season. Thus I fully understand how hollow my rating of him is!

His level v Arsenal and Liverpool the season before last was good. That’s 1 and a half games in 2 seasons though of being at peak fitness.

To be fair you have to add in games like Bournemouth at home and he was effective in some games last season too, like West Brom and even United at home.

The key question though is will his hamstring hold up and allow him to play at that intensity.

When he is fit he will be in the team every week for Silva... there is no way he will sell him, if fit and of course he won't be able to sell him if injured.
