He got himself in that silly position in the first place. He got the ball in midfield, had someone running down the left (can't remember who), ignored the pass, turned back and ran out of options. He then played a silly pass to Scheirderlin who also did his best to cock it up which resulted in McCarthy sprinting back to make a last ditch tackle, albeit a great one. If he was more ambitious he wouldn't have got himself in that position in the first place.

That being said, if he can get himself fit and sharp he's extra legs in the middle.
