James McCarthy

To be honestly mate IF you think Martinez is a good manager you don’t have a clue about football. The same 2013/2014 one season again and again about Bobby and his mate. McCarthy did not turn up for like 3/4 years and he is so injury proned. He is average and like those you dislike he can only pass sideways.
Won a trophy and got to the SF of the WC. Yeah, how silly of me to think he's a good manager.

Our best defensive midfielder without a shadow of a doubt. Wins the ball - lays it off. Nice and simple.

Gueye and Schneiderlin are both way below McCarthy's level. The only one who could match and surpass a fit McCarthy might be Baningime. It's a shame his career seems to have stalled with injury.
Gueye and Schneiderlin both bought to the club by Ronk so it stands to reason that McCarthy, who was bought by World Cup Bobby, is a better player

Not a patch on Reid, Bracewell or Joe Parkinson and not as good as Barry.
No. But you have to factor in they played with good partners who each got through a lot of work. And Reid/Bracewell and Ebbrell/Parkinson played at a time when you didn't have to be too fussy how you went in and challeneged opponents.

That's just nonsense. Go and compare McCarthy's stats in his first season here with either of those two clowns.

You are entitled to your own opinions, but not your own facts. Stop making up stuff.

The lowest # of tackles per game Gana has ever had was 3.5 and he's been over 4 every other PL season. McCarthy's highest ever in the PL was 2.7.

In terms of interceptions per game, the lowest Gana ever had in the PL was 1.9 and he's had much higher than that with us and with Villa (where he had an insanely high number). McCarthy has never been higher than 1.8, which wouldn't have beaten Gana's worst season.

He has NEVER been anywhere near the player Gana is and was. It's not even close, not statistically, not in reality.

I'd probably still take him over Schneiderlin, but neither are particularly good, especially not anymore.

WTF do those stats tell you? Not much. You can deal with and snuff out danger by staying on your feet and shifting it into a non threatening position. That, in fact, was McCarthy's game rather than lunging in. He had a good positional sense in terms of when danger would arise and then where it should be escorted out to to deal with that danger.

Playing without the ball is as important as playing with it.

Well that makes a lot of sense! I mean it takes so much more effort to spell 'lin' rather than 'fraud'

Fraud has a better ring to it.

Whoa. YOU said the stats were better with McCarthy. I don't give a flip about the stats, you brought them up and you were wrong. Your opinions are fine, debatable, but fine.

Not a Martinez hater but not sure the above is quite right.

I think that only getting to the semi final with the best squad of players in the tournament actually makes him a bit of a failure imo.
They should of won the trophy and the few Belgians I know were disappointed only getting that far.
As for the FA cup you can balance that off with the relegation.

Interesting to see his next job in club football will be and how he fairs in that.

But you're being selective and you KNOW it. The two areas you point in Gueye's favour can be countered by McCarthy having a better record on 'clearances' and '50/50 balls won" and "blocked shots".

So you see, for my money when you add in positional sense and being able to front up danger and neutralise it by staying upright and shepherding danger away (non-statistical and more subjective) then McCarthy for me is the clearly better player. That is the deciding factor.

Is this for real?

France, Spain, Brazil at the very least had better squads. Hazard and De Bruyne and the GK are the only standouts.
