2025/26 James Garner

Plays right back, left back, midfield pivot and right midfield and does it all really well. I always watch Everton games twice first time live and struggle to be rational watching the game. Second time to analyze the game and I can't see the issues that people have with Garner. The lad is a quality player and will be better with better players around him.

That goal... Wow.
Having him at the club (as you rightly said) with better players around him, I think we have a very able midfielder / left back / Right back holding mid on our hands. Talk about utility player. Made up for him. Great talent 💙

Personally I rate him, always have. He’s not top drawer by any means but he’s calm, good technique, can tackle, can pick a pass, can protect the ball and has an engine on him. Basically he can do all the basics very well.
A team of stars falters without guys like Garner.
Underrated in defensive vision of the game, and allows Gana to be Gana.

Playing at left back is just adding to his development. He probably understands this team play better than anyone on the pitch and can see the changes the new players are making to the play.Yep reckon he'll step up and play at a higher level as it comes.
Interesting to see how he would go without Gana and in the midle of KDH and Tim

Has been brilliant. Not quite as good as he was at RB but that's to be expected. I think he'd be really good sitting in front of the back four. Maybe the long term answer to the Gana conundrum is already at the club.

It’s probably to the players detriment, but versatile players are invaluable. Especially at clubs like ours, where we can’t have 2/3 players of equal quality for every position.

I like a player who can do a number of jobs, even if they aren’t fantastic at any one job. Steven Naismith was another player like that. Fans hate it, though.

Personally I’m much more upset at Phil Neville’s very poor coaching ability and man management.
