2025/26 James Garner

I honestly don't think he played well enough to go. He deserved his call up due to his form earlier in the year but he needed a good end to the season and did nothing. Part of me thinks Moyes played a big part in that by running our best players into the ground.Dewsbury-Hall was playing close to that level a few months back but there was nothing left in the tank by March.
What on earth are you talking about? KDH played 32 games all season - half of some players.

And you think his tank was empty after the 22 games he played in the 7 months from August- Feb. No internationals, no travelling across the globe?

He had a few duff games because he’s an inconsistent player - have a guess why he’s at Everton rather than Chelsea.

I think he was knackered, I can't explain why he was knackered, but he looked knackered to me.

I think they're the right words to describe what he did to some of these players.

Our tactics are to press with very little possession which is demanding. There's been plenty of games where you can see our best players struggling on 70 mins and needing to come off but our manager refuses.

I've got no doubt these players can handle a busier season but not playing these tactics with a manager who's seriously lacking when it comes in game changes.
Interesting just looked up and found this:

Who ran the furthest for each team?

Of the remaining 10 top-flight teams not featured in the list above, Declan Rice and Tyrick Mitchellboth ran over 380km to cover the most distance at their respective clubs.
In addition to breaking the Premier League assists record, Bruno Fernandes ran more than any other Manchester United player too, during what turned out to be a stellar 2025/26 for the Portuguese star.
Veteran right-back Kyle Walker, 36, also deserves praise for finishing the campaign as relegated Burnley’s hardest-working individual.

Remaining 10 clubs' players with highest total distances ran 2025/26

Was it any worse than what we’ve been serving up lately with Garner in the side?
It's everyone's favourite part of the summer, where we simultaneously claim that all our players are great and massively underrated by the footballing world but also that we need to buy loads of new players in order to finish higher than *checks notes* 12th for the first time in 5 years.

….i’m actually reading that synopsis totally different on here, largely septic view of our squad and our club with very little positivity at all.

Don’t think you can compare the two things.

I was comparing the job the midfield selected by tuchel did in the game versus what I have seen Jimmy G do for us for much of the season.

….tournament footy is all about what the team does in the tournament. I have no real interest or opinion but that’s what to judge them on, not a warm up game on a reportedly dodgy pitch.
Sound like tuchel there mate, we will get better as the opponents get better!

I don’t think he’s got the balance of the squad close to right, and Jimmy G should have gone in place of some of the lickspittles he’s picked, like Henderson.

Agree about the pitch, looked abysmal. Think a few pitches will be like that in the tournament though, so could be good practice!

….not in the least, all I’m saying is he will be judged on how he does in the tournament. If they do very well then that justifies his squad selection, if they do poorly he’s open to criticism.

The other point I’ll make about tournament football is the winners will often grow into the competition, not always starting Impressively. The first game is often difficult regardless of opposition.
