2025/26 James Garner

I’m not that bothered usually watching England in friendlies but watched out of curiosity last night to see how JG was perceived by the Sky6 biased media. Egg’s earlier post about the conversation between two of the presenters sums it up entirely.

Have to say though that Tuchel is giving me very positive vibes about how we’ll fare in the World Cup - he definitely has something about him and is very direct when he’s discussing it. And Jimmy Garner did himself no harm. However, the highlight was Dominic Cardboard-Cutouts delightful miss - he’s such an ungainly footballer that lad.

Can we ge
Maybe all those basking in the reflected glory of James Garner now, but had previously written him off, might show a little adult learning skills and humility to give teenage Tyler Dibling some breathing space to develop lads?

You know who you are.

Can we get this printed on a banner in the south stand please?

….read the England U21 match report from last night just to see if he got a mention and he did seem involved when he came on, two shots on target from inside the box.

….just watching the Sky Sports summary on Sky News with Jackie Beltrano who said none of the fringe players did themselves any good last night. The main presenter said, ‘I thought the bloke who played on the left did well, who was that?’ she shrugged her shoulders, so he said, ‘is his name Garner’, again she shrugged her shoulders. So the bloke said ‘I’ll google him’ 😄

A Sky Sports presenter didn’t know James Garner, says everything. Embarrassing, I’d imagine a few Evertonians are telling her.

I’m hoping actual Sky Sports channel is a bit more clued up!

Just reading JG’s ratings from a variety of sources.
Not too bad considering some of the sources are glorified Kopite fanzines and are written by morons.

BBC - The Everton man can be very happy with his first England display. A match that did not have the intensity of a competitive game but Garner did what he needed to do. He was asked to take set-pieces which is a compliment. 6

Guardian - The Everton midfielder delivered some dangerous corners and did not disgrace himself on his debut. 6

Mirror - Took responsibility for set-pieces and looked eager to impress. Good passing. Decent. 7

Evening Standard - Solid senior debut. Created four chances, by far the most of any player on the pitch, and also led the way for tackles with five. Made more of his audition than most in an England shirt. 7

Telegraph - Good defensive work with interceptions, which twice set up chances for Solanke by pinching the ball in a dangerous area. Put on set-pieces and is threatening on corners, also put in a good cross. England squad chances: Standby player. 6

Football365 - Garner has a wicked set-piece delivery on him and, while that is an important string to his bow, it’s not the X-factor it would be ahead of any other tournament with Declan Rice there and absolutely undroppable.

TalkSPORT (from village idiot Adrian Durham) 5

Goal.com - An impressive debut, providing Uruguay lots to think about with his set-piece delivery and linking the play well. 6

Daily Star - Assumed responsibility for set-pieces and appeared keen to impress. Quality passing. Respectable. 7

The i paper - Did not look out of place on his England debut. Little to do but did nothing wrong before being replaced with 20 minutes to go. Not the Everton midfielder’s fault, just a role that required the bare minimum on a night where Uruguay did not have a single shot on target while he was on the pitch. 6

Daily Mail - Nice deliveries were a highlight of first half, even if nothing came of them. Saw lots of the ball and was bright enough with it. But overall, not enough to demand inclusion. 6.5
