2025/26 James Garner

Really don't get the Henderson selection but then I don't get the Burn selection either.

Mainoo has played pretty well for United since Carrick reintroduced him but the standout 4 players for the two orthodox central midfield positions are...

Rice
Anderson
Garner
Wharton

If Henderson is selected ahead of any of them then it will be most disappointing really as he's so far behind them at this point in his career.

Its odd that Henderson (Eggs' favourite English midfielder) would be going as a player rather than he and perhaps Burn as assistants?

Its a bit like Moyes with Coleman.

It appears as though Tuchel will go with
Henderson
Bellingham
Rice
Anderson

With Wharton, Garner & Mainoo competing perhaps for 1 place.

Not easy to get on the plane, hopefully he gets more time on the pitch in the next game.

Given the usual hate to our players, has Lee Dixon come out and said when Garner went off England looked better going forward, proven by the goal. And at the same time, it was all Garner's fault that they scored as he wasn't deemed good enough to last the full game.

….just watching the Sky Sports summary on Sky News with Jackie Beltrano who said none of the fringe players did themselves any good last night. The main presenter said, ‘I thought the bloke who played on the left did well, who was that?’ she shrugged her shoulders, so he said, ‘is his name Garner’, again she shrugged her shoulders. So the bloke said ‘I’ll google him’ 😄

A Sky Sports presenter didn’t know James Garner, says everything. Embarrassing, I’d imagine a few Evertonians are telling her.

I never understand why he put basically a second 11 out. Surely the purposes of any new squad members being selected is to see how they interact in match conditions with likely first teamers. Having them all play together seems a little pointless. I’d want to see whether different partnerships work, and whether the dynamics of the team change. He’s had two games to do it this week.

….apparently picked two separate match squads, many weren’t involved last night and most of last nights won’t be involved on Tuesday.

I’m sure he knows 90% of his squad and his starters will come from those. Probably assessing the newbies more in training and their suitability to mix rather than last night.

I appreciate that…and their ability to mix will be seen during training sessions and team building sessions etc. I’d just be more inclined for those two match day squads to have a mix of regular first teamers with new comers.

He started very brightly, nipping in and winning several duels. Delivered decent set pieces compared to foden from the other side. However, he faded as the game progressed, despite picking up good positions, (mainly due to his team mates not seeing the spaces he created). He didn't get the passes in to him that would have really allowed him to shine.
