2025/26 James Garner

Funnily enough, the penny finally dropped with the Villa fans last night. Badge slapping cheerleader (their words, which used to be mine) waiting for his move to a “big club,” but still yet to show anything of the talent that thinks he has.

Always was a stat player rather than one you see do anything over 90mins.

Has all the attributes to be a dominant midfielder on paper. Until you see him play regularly.

Player of the season for us. I hope he gets the England recognition for the WC, that he deserves.
Yep, so far player of the season for us

Tackles (Defensive Actions)
  1. João Palhinha (Tottenham) – leads midfielders in total tackles (around 88).
  2. James Garner (Everton) – second highest in combined defensive actions, including tackles.
  3. Elliot Anderson (Nottingham Forest) – top-level ball-winning numbers among central mids.
  4. Tyrick Mitchell (Crystal Palace) – high tackling totals among midfield cohort.
  5. Florentino Luís (Burnley) – frequent defensive tackles in midfield.

Interceptions
  1. Moises Caicedo (Chelsea) – tops the league for interceptions among midfielders.
  2. James Garner (Everton) – strong interception figures combined with tackling.
  3. Marcos Senesi (Bournemouth) – high interception involvement (though sometimes deeper).
  4. Ethan Ampadu (Leeds) – among the top for midfield interceptions.
  5. Ryan Gravenberch (Liverpool) – solid interception frequency among central mids.

Rather he has a nice long holiday and comes back for preseason fit and well
Dont get this. Besides not wishing him the dream of playing in a world cup which he fully deserves, the experience will only make him a better more complete player at the highest level. And the further England go the better it is for him and Everton. When he's walking out in the semi final of the CL at HD he would be the guy the other players will look to take the lead and show the way.

If he makes the squad and its a big if,doubt he'd be an automatic starter so it just leaves the ever present risk of him picking up an injury while training. Oh plus I don't give a toss about England.😉

I do, but I want a team full of internationals, shows we are at the top end of the table.

Don't think as a footballer you can beat the experience of a world cup, experience is everything. Yeah he could pick up an injury but he could pick up an injury walking out of the shower.
Oh there's joy in watching England, joy in watching em getting knocked out

He reminds me of Alan Harper from our mid 80s squad, although he had to play second fiddle to Reid and Bracewell.

But he is the dependable, hard working type, nothing fancy but a top player. Every good team has his type in it.
