2025/26 James Garner

All the arguments/discussions across the threads are all down to one man, The manager, his decisions to constantly play players out of position is infuriating.
The sooner we get rid the better, the sooner we go into games fearing nobody the better, the sooner we have someone who knows how to open teams up the better, the sooner we have a manager who doesn't fear a clubs badge the better

Came in to find out a lemon and some other fruits are talking about him being a RB because he played well in a match.

Well yes he played well, a great CM can play well almost anywhere on the pitch. He had to defend all night because we kept loosing the ball in the midfield, so he got a lot of action. We sorely needed him in the middle last night, might have made the difference as United are open there.

I also wonder why some people cant comprehend that every team you play is different. That some matches you go against weaker players at your position, and other matches you might go against some of the best in the world(or a different formation/tactic) and even holding your own is well done.

He is in such stupendous form at the moment that he'd probably be MOTM 9 times out of 10 irrespective of where we played him on the pitch. IMO he needs to be in centre mid, though, although I *gulp* agree with @davek that it shouldn't be in a 2. Jimmy G, Armstrong and KDH would be a great central 3 with bags of energy and some actual guile on the ball.

Where I have a mild suspicion that Dave and I will disagree, is that I think Patterson should see out the season as RB.

Patterson is a low quality player: short of pace, positionally poor, dubious delivery and only has a gear going forward. He has to be protected at all times. That cant be right if you're chasing points in this league.

Garner at RB every time for me and make the MF work better with a different shape of team.

Of course, Moyes will have O'Brien back in from now on. 🤷‍♂️

I agree Patterson is terrible.

But if the answer is Garner playing out of position, making our midfield worse, then I'm not sure that's what we should do either

It absolutely has to be Garner, KDH and one of Armstrong or Timmy I in a midfield 3 from now on

I know you will live and die on your hill so it's pointless really to respond to you, so i'll keep it simple..

Look at there goal yesterday, where was the midfield, Garner would have been in the centre ready for that.
He also instructs the players around him and leads by example.

Him and KDH are 2 players on the same wavelength..
You split them up and you lose the heart in the team.
No other 2 players beat the same drum..

I Could carry on, but just think about that for a second.

Depends on the opposition as well.

Against Burnley then we can afford to leave out someone like Iroegbunam and play an extra creative player like Alcaraz.

For me though, a solid back four is the answer to a lot of problems in the PL.

Garner - O'Brien - Branthwaite - Mykolenko wouldnt be found wanting too many times in the remainder of this season. That allows us to get away with not expecting anything by way of attacking from Mykolenko and therefore that side a lot more stable, while getting something going forward on the right.

Patterson isn't the standard required for a starter, but at the same time he's not been so terrible this season that him playing risks losing us games.

He's a limited player but just by being a natural right back he balances the team in posession. Playing midfielders and centre backs at right unbalances the team. For me the decision is that simple.

That's more to do with ridiculously naive tactics playing on the half way line with slow CBs against a United attack that can counter very well.

Garner is better deployed at RB, but fear not: he'll be back in CM next game and O'Brien put back at RB. 😵‍💫

Excuses Dave, our cm was lost.
And you know it, one day just say what you see, Instead of living on the opposite side of the world to anyone else.

Come down from that hill you've built, and taste a breathe of fresh air..

And no i'm not going to bite, i'll leave you to chew on your own waffle..

I expected nothing less. What I would say, though, is we have enough midfielders to make Garner at RB and Gueye on the bench work.

Armstrong-Rohl-KDH would be worth a crack in my book.
