With 12 months left on his City contract in the summer, Jack holds all the cards.
He can either see that deal out on his big fat contract and walk away for nothing, or City can come to the table and thrash out a deal for 18-22m with us and get his wages off their books (providing Jack takes a hefty wage cut if he comes to us)
This is what I think.
His dreaded ‘
book value’ for City to break even from an accounting perspective is £100m / 6 or £16m, plus they owe him the last £16m of his contract - less whatever they can negotiate with him and then the buyer tops up.
I’d imagine they will agree to sell him to whoever is willing to cover the amortisation and whom will pay the largest bit of whatever they agree to on his contract.
A £25m sale and him agreeing a £135k per week contract might see all parties content as City basically close the door on him ‘breaking even’ and he gets all his last years money.
Be surprised if he didn’t want a 3 year deal so potential total investment / write off would be in the region of £46m for the buying club.
Whether TFG have the stomach for that we will see.
Personally I think they would if they though it would guarantee UEFA / CL every year of his contract, but I’m not sure (joking aside) that
Moyes is the guy to make the most of players like
Grealish, or that we would have the squad to make the most of his talents.
