There is a documentary on channel 4 where they interview kids (14ish and under) on the west bank, on both sides and their views on eachother are so disturbing considering their age. This is going to take generations to fix regardless of politics

Religions don't wait for you to reach maturity. They want you indoctrinated from birth so that your whole life is formed around it. This is the same. They are told from birth that the other side is your sworn enemy. It is then incredibly difficult to ever shake that belief.

Only been to Israel once and that was 36 years ago.

We were taken on a guided walking tour of Jerusalem and the way in which Palestine were referred to and treated , even then was nothing short of disgusting and yes sadly we couldn't wait to leave the country and thought that they were practicing apartheid.

Yeah, that's true. This seemed to be deeper than religious thing though. The Israeli kids constantly referred to palastinians as vermin, the palastinian kids wanted to join the armed rebels as kids.

The only main religious part is that youth festival thing where the kids go through East(?) Jerusalem and just basically throw food etc at the Islamic buildings and people, not sure what the origins of the festival is but I'm sure its not

I am not sure this is necessarily true for this - there are absolutely religious figures (as there is in Christianity, Islam and other faiths) going around issuing blood-curdling nonsense but this is almost always done in the service of nationalism and self-interest.

To put it another way the problem with how the Israeli government behaves is not the Jewish bit, its the Israeli bit. Jewish communities here in the UK or everywhere else in the Diaspora do not behave like this, and to my memory at least ever have, nor did the old Jewish communities in the Middle East.

I read about this a long time, it was kind of when I started being aware of the situation. The Israeli propaganda machine, even then, was in full flow - these things were just ignored.
