Yes bombing people, and holding onto urban areas are very different things.

The other thing is, outside of Shia communities, Hezbollah are not massively popular. They will be an awful lot more popular following Israeli invasion into their country. So whatever strength Hezbollah had before, it will be substantially stronger now.

Yes I suspect Christians, who have seen their country invaded by a murderous force, who have blown up Churches in Palestine are not going to be cuing up to help Israel. They will take their chances with Hezbollah in all honesty, which is very telling about who the real threat to their religion is in the area.

A point regarding Lebanese Christians, if Israel go at Lebanon like Gaza they are going to have lots of their blood on their hands. I get that Netanyahu doesn't seem to care about his own (hostages) but the diversity of Lebanon sees Christians everywhere. I wonder how the optics would play out with US/Western Christians in such an event. Not that it should matter, we are all one blood and all, but tribalism might make things difficult.

I think they suspected Iran would bottle it and the Lebanese state.woild invite them in to ethnically cleanse South Lebanon. This would have been a huge error, as it won't just stop with the Shia community. That was their gamble though. Essentially show that Iran/Lebanon/Hezbollah wouldn't stand with Gaza when it came to the crunch. That has failed.
