Current Affairs Israel is an apartheid state

Things are about to take a turn for the worst in the the region (if that’s possible). Looking extremely likely that Israel will invade southern Lebanon.

Israeli foreign minister Katz said

“We are very close to the moment of decision to change the rules against Hezbollah and Lebanon. In an all-out war, Hezbollah will be destroyed and Lebanon will be severely hit,”

Perhaps it is worth mentioning that Lebanon has taken no hostile actions towards Israel, is no military threat to Israel, has suffered civil war and strife for nearly seventy years because of Israel and Hezbollah only exists because of Israel.

If they start hitting Lebanon again then the EU and the UK should break off all diplomatic ties with the current Israeli regime. They’ve been told repeatedly not to do this, they’ve ignored it and so we should do likewise.

Absolutely

Most would say attacking those Iran backed terror groups is a good thing.

Btw its "turn for the worse".

Think they enjoy living under that regime?
That’s a very odd way of looking at it.

Whatever “regime” they live under today and neither you, nor I know what it’s like for them, then surely it has to be better than the alternative of having the Israelis bomb the crap out of you and invade your towns and villages.

Hezbollah are not Hamas. They are serious contenders. This will get very messy for Israel in no time at all.

There are multiple ways of looking at this.

As I said, we dont know what the locals want. Also look at the failures in Afganistan & Iraq -- certainly there will be a large number of people in Afganistan who wanted to be free from the Taliban -- and now?

The Iran backed terror groups cant be allowed to fire at Israeli civilians from Lebanon. That I am sure of -- what about those innocent people? No one speaks of them.

Iran is the puppeteer in this and the people there (especially women) have marched and shown theyre against the regime -- if we remove the head of the snake -- what is the plan for the next decade? Will the people be happy under a pro-democratic government installed by the West?

Or will they find the cretins and followers of the old regime return?

Wasnt it Abu Dhabi or Dubai who made statements about Palestine/Hamas being supported in the West with all the protests etc? They know far more than we do as does Israel and as does Iran.

Whatever happens there will be people for and against.

Look back at past wars and where innocent civilians have been killed...overall later being happier and safer, or worse.

Theres no right answer, but the terror groups need removing if they fire at civilians and also if they punish civilians to suit them holding power.

Hamas can throw gays off buildings and Iran can whip and kill women for not being covered and quiet.

Should those civilians want to continue living like that or would they accept the risk and suffering to have a chance of a better life?

We do know what the locals want, they've expressed it individually and collectively for a long time.

They want the old, prosperous Lebanon back, to live under a government that isn't spectacularly useless and spectacularly corrupt. They want the foreign interference in their country to stop - for Israel, Syria, Iran, the US and everyone else to stop wrecking their country and turning it into a battleground.

They know, as does everyone else in the region and anyone with a brain in the rest of the world, that another Israeli attack is going to do nothing useful for them and will in all likelihood make things far worse.

Really interesting read. An interview with the recent Army Intelligence analyst who was high-up in the Middle East region. He talks about US aid to Israel, especially in the context of a possible Israeli-Hezbollah conflict.

[excerpt]
All true. Finally, what do you want people outside of the security apparatus to know about how the Gaza genocide looked to those inside of the security apparatus?

I want to be clear that everybody who followed this issue from inside the U.S. government—whether it's the military, the intel world, the State Department, USAID—was fully aware of not only everything that was happening in terms of destruction and civilian deaths in Gaza, but also the expected consequences and expected trajectory of the Israeli campaign in Gaza.

What I've told you is not really my unique analysis or has anything to do with my own personal genius judgments. I think they're widely shared, or widely at least understood by everybody who works on this topic professionally. And I emphasize that because I think even in the past month, we've seen demands from our government that the Israelis must have a day-after plan, or that the Israelis still must work towards reducing civilian casualties, or that they must work towards a number of these sort of very basic steps that it was clear nine months ago that they weren't going to do anything about. One of the reasons that I'm still talking and still a little angry is because this has been a really slow-motion train wreck. Anybody could have told you back in October, back in November, that we'd get somewhere like where we are today.

Sorry for posting the below, but it is a short clip from a much longer film that I think encapsulates why this war is so very wrong, and why we in this country need to ensure it ends as soon as possible. The spoiler clips are there because it is a very difficult watch, not because of any gore.
