The motions were to expel the Israe ambassador and report Israel to the International Crminal Court.
As already posted, regrettably it would not make sense for Ireland to unilaterally break off diplomatic relations with Israel. We would be alone of all the rest of the western States, including the other 7 EU States that voted for the UN resolution seeking a ceasefire.
Lots of Irish citizens in Israel as well as some in Gaza.
To be consistent we would also need to expel the Russian ambassador.
The ICC sad a few weeks ago it is investigating Israel's actions, so Ireland acting alone in making its own complaint would be superfluous.
I understand the motivation for these motions but also can't disagree with the Government defeating them.
There should now be a Motion seeking an immediate ceasefire and withdrawal of IDF from all Palestinian Territories. That I would certainly support.
