In the hundreds certainly...and a terrible loss of life...a massacre. But the Israeli government have been spinning this 1,400 number and it's being questioned a lot now.
More than likely the Palestinian losses right now are going to be well over the 10,000 recorded. It's probably nearer 15,000-20,000.

TBF I am reasonably sure the Israeli death figures are reasonably correct, but the question is who killed many of them. A lot of them were clearly Hamas, but there are real questions about those in the Kibbutzim who were still there when the IDF arrived.

And on the numbers: I think what maybe happens is that when you open the door up to questioning one side's reported figures (as the Israelis and Yanks have done with the Gaza authority declared casualty totals) then question marks get raised about the validity of the figures concerning the amount of Israeli dead...that's the trade off when propaganda is used.

... but in short you cannot easily fake death numbers in modern society - people can check how many funerals there has been, death certificates and so on. What you can fake is the circumstances of those deaths. By that I do not mean Hamas has no responsibility for the people who died - they wouldn't have died without the Hamas attack, after all - but the lurid reports of burning / explosion related deaths at the hands of Hamas should be regarded with suspicion.
