Speaking truth to power

The framing of the question is disingenuous, in the sense that the spokesman will never face trial. "I only followed orders" is not a credible defense at the level of responsibility the Nuremberg defendants had. It is credible when you're a foot soldier like this guy. He has zero influence over policy or outcomes.

I’m stoking the flames of nothing, it’s you going on the protests march (obviously not for the hostages mind) at Remembrance weekend……
I am not going on the protest march this weekend - I went last weekend however, protest against mass murder and decades of torture sits right alongs side the essence of remembrance day in my opinion. 40,000 people going to a football match is OK with you though? Just not brown people protesting genocide?!

You're a classic closet bigot.

Information like this you mean…..

“A senior Hamas leader has refused to acknowledge that his group killed civilians in Israel, claiming only conscripts were targeted.
Moussa Abu Marzouk told the BBC that "women, children and civilians were exempt" from Hamas's attacks.”

This is in spite of all the video evidence, some even provided by the bodycams of Hamas terrorists themselves who murdered kids at a music festival, butchered civilian men, women and children and did unspeakable and utterly repugnant things even to babies in the villages….

And they still refuse to release Hostages, why ? Ask your professional protestors at the march why no one is protesting against Hamas holding hostages, it may give you some new excuses from 50 years ago to post in here…..
What about Hamas ffs, get a grip. 10,000 innocent civilians dead at the hands of an elected government and you're still crying about the actions of a terrorist group.

Right, but if he had simply phrased the question as "high-ranking members of the State Department" (meaning 'not you'), it changes the whole tenor of the interaction. The reporter deliberately aims to make the spokesman as uncomfortable as possible for the purposes of making him look bad, and for avoiding the out of saying, "Like those people talk to me about concerns like that. Ask them." The reporter doesn't want to ask them, because this isn't their first rodeo and they'll deflect the question more effectively. It may also be that he doesn't have enough clout these days to get into that press conference, or ask a question.

Personally, I think 'gotcha' journalism like that changes fewer minds than it hardens in opposition. It's good content, if your intent is to get retweeted by people both agreeing with and opposing what they're seeing, monetize the content and show upper management a high engagement score. It's not good journalism. It's also not good for press-government relations, in the sense that the government should see opposition reporters as part of His Majesty's Loyal Opposition, rather than opponents in a game of cheap political theater. Hard questions, yes. Rig the game to get a desired emotional response, no.

To put it another way, Jon Stewart was right on Crossfire almost two decades ago. We're pushing political hack reporters like Begala and Tucker Carlson front and center these days, rather than treating them like the hacks they are. This guy's bio suggests he's not a hack, so he shouldn't act like one.

an armistice march on armistice weekend and you genocide supporting, hypocrite loons have the cheek to feign outrage.
I recall a story my old grandfather, a veteran of both the Somme and Paschendale, repeatedly told me ...

He went to war in 1916 not really having a clue as to why we were at war but thats whats just he and his mates (PALS) did back then. They questioned nothing!

Having survived he had a lifetime to think about it all and decided that he was fighting for those without any real power or authority i.e the common man. He and his PALS fought for our freedoms, the right of free speech, the right to protest and the right to question those in power, and also all those caught up in any war or conflict that was not of their making. That's why he didn't hate the Germans or any others nations in the opposite trenches. They were all just caught up in something they had no control over and were just trying to survive like he was.

Seems to me the Palestine protest march this remembrance Sunday was EXACTLY what he was fighting for all those years ago.
